The Lid Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This safety feature is designed to prevent the washer from operating when the lid is open. It ensures that the spinning cycle can only commence once the lid is securely closed, protecting users from potential injuries.

Over time, the lid switch assembly can fail due to normal wear and tear, accidental damage, or from being tampered with.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Switch Assembly include:

  • The washing machine does not start or stops suddenly during the cycle.
  • The washer does not spin, even though it fills and agitates.
  • The machine operates regardless of the lid's position, indicating a bypass or failure in the safety mechanism.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Hello Daryl. Yes, the lid switch can affect the filling, agitate, and spin cycles on washing machines. It looks like it would affect agitate and spin on your model. If your getting no fill or agitate, check your pressure switch on the unit.

Tiffany, It appears you supplied the serial number for your washer, not the model number ( usually starts with ITW). But, in most cases Whirlpool and Inglis repair parts are interchangeable. So you shouldn't have any issues installing the WP3949238 / 3949238 Whirlpool lid switch assembly on your Inglis washer, if that's the switch called for in the parts and service literature.
