The Lid Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This safety feature is designed to prevent the washer from operating when the lid is open. It ensures that the spinning cycle can only commence once the lid is securely closed, protecting users from potential injuries.

Over time, the lid switch assembly can fail due to normal wear and tear, accidental damage, or from being tampered with.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Switch Assembly include:

  • The washing machine does not start or stops suddenly during the cycle.
  • The washer does not spin, even though it fills and agitates.
  • The machine operates regardless of the lid's position, indicating a bypass or failure in the safety mechanism.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

Terry, unfortunately, we would not be able to guarantee that gluing the switch body together will work as a permanent repair. We would only be able to recommend replacing the switch assembly WP3949238 as a repair solution.

ENguyen, What kind of noise was it making? Check the lid and lid latch assembly for proper alignment and operation. You'll need to check the J2 wiring harness to the shift actuator, and the J16 wire harness to the motor from the main control board. The lid latch light and the switch circuits react to inputs from the control board and motor and shifter and the lid switch isn't usually at fault. it would be best if you retrieved the tech data sheet(attached to the inside of the front panel in the upper left corner) and reviewed the error codes logged in the memory and operate all the washer components in the test mode, to properly diagnose and repair the washer.
