Fixed it by replacing the electronic control board. Only 30 min. to fix. (See further down for effort to diagnose the problem.) Most of this "fixing time" was spent removing the control panel to access the control board that is attached to it. My freezer has the control panel located in the top center of the door. The only way to remove the control panel is to pry the panel out of the door using a thin-bladed putty knife. The instructions provided were very good in explaining the process;... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The compressor was not working and the fan was not working.   Janet C. • Monticello , FL • July 18, 2020

I tested the fan outside of the freezer with an adapted direct plug-in cord and it ran fine. I tested the controller tsd it was within the good range along with the run capacitor and it tested good as well. I then tested the compressor resistance, it tested good, although the compressor could have been mechanically bad, it wasn't and I don't know of a way to test for it. Checked compressor windings - ok. Start relay looked no rattle or burning. Start capacitor seamed ok but hard to check. No 120VC to start relay at any time. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You No lights in refrigerator   Lance B. • League City , TX • November 06, 2020

We bought a new house that has a 15 year old GE Monogram built in fridge. The home warranty people sent two guys out saying it was nearly impossible to repair the fridge and they both suggested buying a completely new freezer door for the fridge and of course the warranty company said it was preexisting and we weren't covered. Shocker. I have lighting in the freezer but not the fridge. I purchased a door switch and replaced the old one but that didn't do the trick. So i purchased a 2 amp fuse... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Not cooling properly eventually evaporator fan failure   Richard D. • Wood Ridge , NJ • April 25, 2016

My problem first showed up as varying temperature in both sections of my old mid 1970’s Frigidaire model FPCI-170T-7 refrigerator, which is not listed on most appliance repair databases. Running on the warm side from time to time, as well as sudden fan noise (probably the fan blade hitting ice build-up on the evaporator coil) alerted me to a possible defrost system problem, since the compressor was cooling. The evaporator fan eventually failed after a day or so, and a major repair was... Read more
