Was not cooling food due to evaporator freeze up causing restricted airflow in magic chef rc202t refrigerator Robert K. • Clifton , NJ • October 12, 2014
After removing the back cover in the freezer compartment with a Phillips screwdriver, I saw the evaporator coils completely iced up, which blocked all airflow. A hair dryer was used to completely melt the ice, which took about 15 minutes and filled up the drain pan almost to the top. A quick ohms check with a VOM showed the defrost heater elements were burned out. The wires for these elements are routed along the right side of the coils behind the cover lip, so after cutting a tie-wrap I...

Freezer was cold but refrigerator was warm Beth M. • Marengo , IL • August 06, 2018
After we moved into our new home, we realized that the freezer was very cold and the fins were frosting over, and the refrigerator wasn't cold. We had to take it apart and manually defrost it about once every 8 to 10 days. After research online, we found Appliance Parts Pros videos, which clearly explained how to fix it ourselves, a savings of at least $1,000 or more, since a new one of this size would have been in the arena of $1,200 to $2000. We ordered the three most likely parts to be bad,...

The freezer would freeze up drip water into refrigerator then freeze refrigerator contents and had to be manually defrosted Rob S. • Fort Thomas , KY • December 13, 2014
Ordered parts, defrosted refrigerator, and replaced with new items. This problem has been going on quite some time, while Samsung refused to acknowledge the defective unit, claiming it was owner fault. The defrosting had to be completed every 3-4 months and managed in time to require defrosting every few days. Originally a repairman came and although he defrosted it the first time, he informed us, this is quite common and the unit is defective by design; which is why we continued to defrost on...

Ice maker evaporator would not defrost causing a large build up of ice in the evaporator housing Chris S. • Highland , CA • February 15, 2016
Replaced evaporator heater and housing. Just make sure you also replace the thermostat. If not it is a little challenging to get the wires out of the old thermostat/ heater plug into the new plug. Also if you have the same problem be prepared to have a good heat gun to melt the ice buildup around the evaporator and drain hole. The ice build up was so bad that it destroyed the evaporator cover and was leaking into the refrigerator or should I say ice was forming below the evaporator cover...
