Amana bottom freezer refrigerator has cold freezer warm refrigerator Albert I. • Rio Rancho , NM • June 23, 2014
A bit of research on the internet indicated the most likely problem was with the defrost system. I found the service manual for the refrigerator and was able to determine that the defrost heater and thermostat passed the self test. The refrigerator would perform a forced defrost which resulted in a cold refrigerator. More research revealed that this particular refrigerator does not have a defrost timer, instead the defrost cycle is controlled via the Electronic Control board which is also...

The whirlpool side by side needed upgrade of control components William M. • Sunnyside , WA • February 06, 2017
The 20 year old unit still serves us well, looks good and has been kept in good repair. The condenser fan had stopped so I removed, cleaned and oiled that motor. The decision was made to make an upgrade to the evaporator motor and control units so that the appliance could reasonably be expected to have extended service life. The Ice maker module had been replaced 7 years ago. I ordered the parts and have made the upgrade for temperature controller and the defrost control. If you are in a...

Not cooling properly eventually evaporator fan failure Richard D. • Wood Ridge , NJ • April 25, 2016
My problem first showed up as varying temperature in both sections of my old mid 1970’s Frigidaire model FPCI-170T-7 refrigerator, which is not listed on most appliance repair databases.
Running on the warm side from time to time, as well as sudden fan noise (probably the fan blade hitting ice build-up on the evaporator coil) alerted me to a possible defrost system problem, since the compressor was cooling. The evaporator fan eventually failed after a day or so, and a major repair was...

Defrost not working on upright 20 year old freezer W D D. • Spring , TX • September 19, 2014
A word of thanks to AppliancePartsPros - they delivered in one day. Ordered at 4PM CDT and received the part by noon the next day. Also, Alicia in the help department was able to locate an electrical diagram for my old freezer. This was essential for proper setup and her persistence in tracking down the diagram was top notch. Now on to my problem. One day I opened the freezer and found frost and thawing food. I attributed this to the door hitting an item in the freezer and not completely...

Light switch on bottom freezer compartment flakey (intermittant) Alfred M. • Pahoa , HI • September 07, 2014
I watched the video on replacing the switch on a side freezer where prying out to original switch did not look difficult. I then got on the floor and tried to pry out my switch. Had a terrible time (locking tab or switch body hardened with time?) and mangled the switch terribly and the upper panel of the freezer somewhat, but the switch did come out. AND THEN the top freezer panel with the switch and light assembly fell out into my hands! I was able to unplug one Molex connector and the...

Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 5304518034
The Defrost Timer is an OEM replacement part for Frigidaire upright freezers. It serves as a crucial component responsible for regulating automatic defrost cycles.
Causes of a faulty defrost timer relate to 20,000+ hours of constant exposure to freezer temperatures as low as -10 degrees Fahrenheit. Such extremes can compromise electrical switching mechanisms over prolonged usage periods.
Symptoms of a failed defrost timer include:
- Inability to initiate automatic defrost modes
- Excessive ice and frost accumulation inside cabinet
- Warm areas detected due to impaired fan circulation
- Diagnostic codes indicating defrosting problems
This genuine Frigidaire replacement part is compatible with Kelvinator and some Kenmore units as well.

Freezer would not shut down kept running continuously Jd F. • Russellville , AR • October 22, 2014
Suspected it was the thermostat, since temperature stayed the same at multiple settings over a 24 hr period. There was only three components inside the freezer besides the evaporator, the fan was working, so I decided to just go ahead and replace the thermostat and defrost thermostat. Also replaced the defrost timer by the compressor, just to get all the old parts replaced with new. I had already replaced the compressor, so now I've pretty much have a new freezer. The new parts works great and...

Micro switch replacement on LG lfx25991st refrigerator. Thomas V. • Temecula , CA • March 11, 2020
After my layman's diagnosis (hope) of a bad micro switch to the ice dispenser (would not activate and dispense ice through the chute) I purchased the both the ice and water dispenser micro switches (kill two birds with one stone). Albeit the video attached to these parts may be helpful to some it was not applicable to my refrigerator, as you could not access it from the front by removing the exterior dispenser plate. Don't try this on the LG, LFX25991ST series, refrigerator or you may break it...

Ice maker/water not working with dimming LED, power management, clicking from back Henry O. • Temecula , CA • April 01, 2014
The indication was that when I tried to use the icemaker or water dispenser, the green LED on the front would dim and the ice maker dispenser wouldn't work. It was intermittent at first, but this indicated it may be a power management issue, in that insufficient voltage was getting to the ice dispenser motor. I unplugged the unit to reset the electronics for about a minute, and when I plugged it back it the compressor would try to turn on (solenoid or relay would click about every two...

Water dispenser stopped working. Mark S. • Eliot , ME • January 13, 2021
I watched the Appliance Parts Pros repair video and decided to remove the front panel to diagnose the problem. While the repair video is excellent, I could not remove the ice/water dispenser front panel with a putty knife. On my model, 106.56234400, there is no clip that can be released by sliding a putty knife up under the front panel. It took a little effort but I was able to pop the left lower corner clip just by pulling it out with my fingers. Once the cover was off I could see that the...

Refrigerator light switch broken. W W. • Bettendorf , IA • April 20, 2020
I ordered a new switch from APP and fixed my fridge.
However, the video posted for this repair on this site is not applicable to newer refrigerator models.
I have a 2015 GE GTE18IHCRSS and had to drop the control housing (#432 in the diagram) to attach the wire/plug assembly to the switch. Only had to remove the front screw with a 1/4" nut driver and that provided enough of a gap for me to plug in the switch.
So the correct method to replace the light switch in a newer model refrigerator is as...

Looked up the model number on the internet, found a diagram on AppliancePartsPros.com which led to part number for the user interface, also found "how-to video" on-site that included how to remove user interface panel.
When the part came it was an easy fix, remove defective user interface panel - remove 2 screws mounting lip, then remove 2 screws mounting panel, unplug 4 connectors in back, plug connectors into the new panel, mount new panel, and re-mount lip. Less than 10 minutes, the panel...

Broken timer knob worn out door switch Kurt H. • Quakertown , PA • January 01, 2016
The timer knob simply pulls off the shaft with a solid, steady pull. Cleaned the timer cavity of lint/dust buildup. Aligned the keying flat of the shaft and knob and pushed the new knob on with careful, steady pressure until it was obviously seated. No tools required other than a vacuum.
The door switch would sometimes not shut the dryer off when the door was opened. New switch came with new fast-on connectors. Replacement required opening the top cover of the dryer and hinging it up. This...

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You
This was for a friend of mine his refrigerator stopped cooling Gary G. • Ofallon , MO • July 12, 2015
This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart.
