The guard ring is a protective barrier that surrounds the washer tub opening to prevent clothing and debris from falling between the tub and cabinet during wash cycles. Located at the top of the washer tub beneath the lid, this ring also helps direct water flow and provides structural support. Replace if the ring is cracked, loose, allows items to fall into the cabinet area, or interferes with lid operation.

Fix agitator not working or washer won't spin. This spring retainer secures the tension spring in your agitator assembly. Easy 30-minute DIY repair.
Replaced dogs & cap seal. I also replaced Spring retainer since it was worn and I had it apart. Easy repair. Used a screwdriver to pop off fabric softener cap. socket to remove the agitator. I used a flathead screwdriver to remove the spring from the retainer. I cleaned everything and reassembled. It was a very easy repair. Saved at least $100. doing it myself. I had to replace the drive shaft and the lower agitator. The motor coupling was also worn out. The repair was challenging because I had to rebuild the gear box. Used for lid switch.
Researched this kenmore washer on-line and found the problem to be the lid switch. Saw a diagram on how to jump this switch by connecting a wire to both outside wires on the harness and voila! It worked! This is not a fix but it allowed me to finish the load of unwashed clothes and told me which part was bad (do not run washer jumped like this.......fire hazard!) The bolt that holds the agitator and the agitator cam was rusted in place so it made the project way more difficult than it should have been.
