Oven won't light or ignites with a loud pop? A faulty igniter is usually the cause. Simple DIY fix—disconnect two screws and wire nuts to replace.
My Tappan Range, which I paid a grand total of $65.00 for, and have been using since Katrina, (Katrina in 2005 is how we measure time in South Mississippi.) I live in an old house, and I am old, too. Last winter was the coldest I can remember, and my husband (older than I and far more hard-headed) used the oven like a heater. I read all user's manuals, because I use only used stuff, I can download the manuals or read them online, and it clearly stated in there NOT to use the oven as a... Read more
Fix F1, F3, or F10 error codes and inaccurate oven temperatures with this sensor. Simple DIY replacement takes about 30 minutes with basic tools.
Bought a used Frigidaire 36 inch stove. The broiler didn't come on but the burners lit and the stove worked so I made do for about 4 or 5 years with that. Then the F10 code came up and it wouldn't stop beeping until I unplugged it. I figured the electronics/circuit board was probably bad and ordered a replacement. I was confused about what part to order. The parts list includes "Control Panel" and "Clock - Timer". Turns out the control panels are the glass panel on the front of the stove... Read more
If your oven won't heat or bakes unevenly, the bake element may be burned out. This is a simple 5-10 minute repair—just two screws and wire connectors.
One day, while trying to roast chicken on the convection roast setting, my Electrolux oven stopped heating properly. I tried the broil setting and the top electric heating element worked fine. I then tried the bake setting and found that the bottom element wasn't working at all. I Googled the problem. The info I found said that the issue was probably that the bake element needed to be replaced. It said to look for a break or burned through spot on the element. If it appeared OK, remove it... Before we replaced the board, my wife tried to replace just the element. We had one we had ordered several years ago when this same thing happened. When that didn't work we replaced the board and could see where the old board was damaged so we figured this was the solution. It would have been except the bottom element my wife used to replace the old element (which was fine but had been thrown out figuring the new one was new so why keep the old one) was 1" shorter in the back than the old... Replaced igniter and orifice assembly, and replaced spark module. Used the video for help, but the video doesn't show the top cover piece that needs to be taken off first. Also the screws for the igniter set were stuck from old grease or something and had to be drilled out. Overall the project was well worth my time for the cost vs replacement decision. Burner won't spark or ignite? This cooktop igniter electrode creates the spark needed to light gas burners. Simple DIY fix in under 30 minutes.
This is a Montgomery Ward gas range made by Tappan. Parts are no longer offered for this appliance. So, I had to eyeball various ignitors to determine which one would work. I settled on the least expensive one and ordered two (Just in case there were "issues"). The parts arrived quickly but were not a simple drop-in replacement. The new ones were longer and smaller in diameter. I had to use the original bracket because it provided the electrical ground for the spark. I used a spring to... Read more
