First replaced the drum rollers...that wasn't it..took dryer back apart and spun the belt tension wheel by hand (should have done this the first time I took the dryer apart) and it squeaked. so I ordered the full parts: wheel, idler arm, idler spring, arm sleeve, E ring..Put it back together and whoa..no more squealing!! Frigidaire Gallery gas dryer from maybe 15 years ago. Based on the fact the the smell was only in the dryer, I concluded it must be the gas valve failing to completely seal when closed. After looking at the insides again, I suppose it is possible that it was a connection near the burner, but that stuff had remained untouched for 10 years so I still think I made a good assumption. I replaced the seals and tub bushings to bring back a quieter operation and keep from doing more damage.I have done so since it was new in 1990. It still has a lot of kife left in it. And it beats buying a new unit any day. Read more

Replaced upper and lower felts. Painted rubbing surface on inside of drum with refrigerator enamel. Took out drum and lubed rear bearing. Replaced 2 of the 3 thermostats, and the belt just on principle. Spent a lot of time with shop-vac removing lint from drier and exhaust ducts. Runs great and is no longer cooking or staining clothes. I looked inside and saw the teeth were worn off the "dogs" so I purchased the Cam Agitator repair kit and a new bolt. Getting the old bolt out was the hardest part since it was worn and rusted. I ended up having to buy a set of socket extensions and a set of stripped bolt sockets so $45 in tools and it took me an hour to get the old bolt out but putting everything back together was a breeze. I was very proud of myself, as a woman, that I fixed this problem myself and didnt have to pay a repair... Read more

When I first looked at my dryer I thought it was my ignitor, on a closer look I found that about an inch of my burner assembly arm was laying in a corroded mess on the bottom pan of my dryer. I replaced the motor and all other moving components along with the felt drum seals.drum glides and drive belt. The wiring instruction is where i had the most problems. Because my wiring had only 4 wires in the harness not 5, and one was a different color then the instructions call out, I believe was because it might have been and older model. the instruction called for a gray wire but mine was white with a blue piggy back wire attached. but after finding a few videos on line i figured that the... Took the front panel off (the door front), disconnected the connector to the door switch and used a wooden clothespin to bypass the door switch. Turned on the dryer to locate loud squeaking sound and found it was coming from the motor area. When I started to take the blower section apart from the motor, that is when I saw the "blower wheel" slipped off the motor shaft.
