At first I thought it was the dryer belt. The drum would spin freely with no resistance. I went to Youtube to find a instructional video on how to change the belt. After a few short steps on had access to the dryer belt. To my dismay it wasn't the belt at all. I realized after doing a quick inspection that the idler wheel used to put tension on the belt had broken and was causing the issues. The drum rear cover is the back panel inside your dryer drum that seals the rear of the drum and supports the drum's rotation. It prevents clothes and small items from falling into the internal components behind the drum. Replace this part if you hear scraping or thumping during a cycle, notice clothes snagging on a gap at the back of the drum, or the cover is cracked or broken.
