Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washing machine was making a rumbling noise during the spin cycle   Steven Q. • Beaumont , CA • July 03, 2026

Watched a whole bunch of YouTube videos to replace the tub bearings. Completely disassembled the washing machine. Found that water leaked past the rear tub gasket causing the inner tube bearing to corrode. Replaced both bearings and tub gasket. Inner bearing was the cause of the problem but I replaced both bearings and tub gasket. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ge washer was very loud during spin cycle   Vincent B. • Merrick , NY • January 31, 2016

After researching the problem on this site, I realized that the most likely cause was a bad bearing contained in the shaft & tube assembly. Essentially, the tub seal failed & allowed water to travel down the shaft & into the housing containing the bearing. I confirmed this by pulling the front cover off of the unit & noticed some brown water pooled directly under the shaft & tube assembly. I followed the disassembly instructions on this site & it wasn't too bad but did take some time as pretty... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Little black specks in the dispenser tray calicum build up and rusted clamps on rear of dispenser   Paul B. • San Diego , CA • January 30, 2017

I figured after 10.5 years that it might be time to replace the dispenser hoses because I was noticing black stuff in the dispenser trays. I replaced two or the four hoses and clamps on the far left side and for good measure the hot water inlet valve. The inlet valve was okay but the screen had all kinds of crap in there that I couldn't clean out so now I have an extra solenoid just in case one of the others fails. While I was at it I removed the dispenser and cleaned the calcium build up on... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washer was leaking water   Jerry M. • Mansfield , TX • June 06, 2014

I thought initially it was a hose because it was leaking water from the bottom. On the small and medium load it didn't leak. I watched it on the large setting and noticed the water didn't shut off initially so therefore it was over filling. I ordered a switch pressure switch from Appliance Parts Pros and received it in two days. I replaced the switch, put the washer together and now it works like new. The wife is very happy to have her washer back working better than ever! Thanks! Jerry Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Lg washer: roaring bearings pump noises not draining properly and clogged hoses   Albert W. • Germantown , MD • October 07, 2018

Our 10-year-old LG WM2487HWMA front load washer had gradually developed multiple problems. It sounded like a jet engine during high speed spin, both the drain pump and circulation pumps were noisy, it would not drain properly (water was coming in during spin cycle), no water was spraying out at the top of the door into the drum like it is supposed to when the circulation pump was running. It's amazing we had still been able to wash clothes at all! With the help of the excellent... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You EL   Sonja C. • Parachute , CO • September 17, 2021

My front loader LG washing machine wasn’t working correctly. The clothes were either coming out unwashed or completely dripping. When turning the washer on it would start up like normal and the turn off a few minutes in. Initially it was not displaying an error code, this made it very difficult to diagnose. One of the kids started a load not knowing we are having issues and it started making a clunking cringing noise, when I went to investigate the EL code was up. A few YouTube videos later... Lid Asm Finished-Serv
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WH44X20021

The Lid Assembly is an OEM part for GE washing machines. This part is the lid of the washer. It is essential for securely covering the washer drum, preventing water from splashing out during the wash cycle, and allowing safe operation by ensuring the washer does not run with the lid open.

Causes of a bad lid assembly can include general wear and tear, physical damage from heavy loads or impacts, or issues with the hinges or latch mechanisms.

Symptoms of a bad lid assembly include:

  • Difficulty in opening or closing the lid
  • Washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle due to a faulty lid switch
  • Visible cracks or damage on the lid
  • Water leaking from the top of the washer

This OEM GE part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Badly rusted lid and top cover: ge model s5100d0ww   George W. • Louisville , KY • September 30, 2014

Removing and Replacing (R&R) the parts took about 15 minutes. Getting the correct parts took several weeks. It was a severe struggle. Many of you will experience problems trying to get the correct "Lid" for similar GE washing machine models. AppliancePartsPros.com was great: Right price, Arrived quickly in good condition. I got the wrong part. It was not the fault of AppliancePartsPros.com, though. To make a long story short, GE has disseminated incorrect data in parts lists and it... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washer would not spin nor adgitate   Jeff A. • Stow , OH • June 28, 2015

Motor control board was flashing 4 times, indicating that the mode shifter had an error. I disconnected the mode shifter's wire from the controller and measured the resistance between the 2 leads with an ohmmeter. Since the reading was infinite, that meant that the mode shifter coil or in-line thermal sensor was electrically open, i.e. bad. As this fix is near a complete tear-down of the washing machine, here are a few tips I discovered. 1) the hub nut is difficult to remove and you need a... Read more
