I removed the dial knob and plate as instructed by the video, removed the front panel of the washer to access the switch. I found the plastic molded bracket that the timer rests on to be broken and the tab on the timer where it is attached by a screw to be broken. I ordered a replacement switch, dial and knob. I took the front panel off and exposed the mechanism. Inside the shield is a capacitor, so I guessed that the capacitor was bad.
