The auger gearbox shaft had a spot that was stripped of threads which prevented the auger drive from spinning the ice down the chute. I replaced the auger motor/gearbox assembly, the auger drive as it had to be cut off the shaft, and the 3 mount bolts that hold it all in place. Whole job took 30 minutes from start to finish which included cutting off the drive bracket. Read more
Internal water reservoir with attached tubing that stores and delivers chilled water to the dispenser. Replace if cracked, leaking, or damaged.
Installing the tank went quickly. Removed the water filter from the upper compartment to stop water flow to the tank. Had to remove the two lower drawers (they tilt out of their sliding frames). There is a glass shelf that should be pulled out - it slides out via two notches in the front frame. The water tank is behind a white metal cover held by 4 screws. The problem was most likely the evaporator fan motor but it could have been a bad blade, loose parts or bad motor mounts. Hard to tell without taking everything apart and inspecting. Since fridge was 17 years old I decided to order the entire evaporator fan assembly as shown in the parts diagram including fan blade, motor brackets, motor, motor mounts, screws, etc. Getting to the assembly involved removing the ice maker unit plus the entire rear inside of the freezer section. I found several other parts that needed to be replaced as well. Once All the parts were received, I again watched the video. The hinge broke on the ice dispenser funnel and housing. I took them off and replace them, putting the old switches and bulb in the new housing. It took some time to put the return spring back because it does not appear in the assembly diagram. Once working, it secures to the door with 4 screws, and worked as it should. The auger motor failed and wouldn't turn. I replaced the motor and it works without a problem. Make sure you dont throw away the motor boot or buy one if you don't have one. Otherwise, the temperature will freeze up the motor and lead to premature failure. Read more
