Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The handle to my microwave disintegrated   Patricia W. • Grand Rapids , MN • April 12, 2015

I called an appliance repair man to see if he would come and install the new handle but he said I would have to bring either the microwave or the door to him. With the microwave above the stove that wasn't going to happen so I fixed it myself and I am 75. The handle was a lot cheaper than buying a new microwave and getting someone to install it. I did have to use the old screws and new screws would have helped since I dropped one and it went under the stove. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Broken handle   Russell S. • West Jordan , UT • May 11, 2015

There are four screws that hold the handle in place, my handle was down to one. I had to pry off the inner door cover. I used butter knives, but a thin screwdriver should work as well. Start on the outside edge (away from the hinge) near, but not in, the upper or lower corner. Slip the knife in between the inner door cover and the outer door shell, gently pry loose, working around the cover. It isn't necessary to remove it entirely, but I did so that I could clean it. This exposes two of... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Front grill on ge mircowave fell off   Jan R. • Estero , FL • February 06, 2016

Asked a question on-line; received an answer in less than 15 minutes. Ordered replacement grill [w/o stainless steel front]. Price was the lowest I found. Received part in 2 days. Removed stainless steel front from old grill and installed on new part [be CAREFUL; SS metal front has very sharp edges!] Total time for replacement from taking old SS front off to final installation would have been only 20-25 minutes except two plastic lower tabs on new part were not molded correctly and would... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You I have a ge over the range built in microwave grill vent bottom tabs and the screw tabs broke when i forcibly took it off when i was cleaning it   Benjamin R. • West Chicago , IL • August 30, 2015

No other fix but to replace the whole grill. I bought the part which comes in black and I have to transfer the stainless skin from my old part to the new part. The lower tabs are tight so you have to make it bigger. I used a sand paper to make the tab space bigger. Part is made of plastic so be extra careful when putting it back. Do not force it. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Lost power to the microwave no display oven still worked   Jose L. • Timnath , CO • October 02, 2016

I have one of those combo units with the microwave on top and the oven on the bottom. The thermometer switch located on the upper right side mounted on top of the magnetron read open on a continuity test. Replaced the thermal fuse. Everything works fine now. Note: The thermal switch on the left side read closed, the fan switch on the lower right side read open. I just watched some youtube videos on what and how to test the components. The 20A fuse was good. So I tested the thermal... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Loud sizzeling noise when heating food   Brian P. • Port Deposit , MD • December 27, 2014

I had to remove the microwave from the range and then remove the cover from the microwave to determine the exact problem. After a visual inspection then discharging the high voltage capacitor, I used a meter to test the high voltage diode and fuses. After using the meter to ohm out the magnetron, I removed it from the unit, and seeing that the hole in the end of the magnetron's tube was enlarged and burnt, as if it was arcing, I assumed it was the bad part. I ordered the parts from Appliance... Read more
