Freezer not cooling or excessive frost buildup? The defrost control board manages the defrost cycle. Moderately difficult repair with video guidance.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The defrost heater would not work   John R. • Lumberton , MS • May 21, 2019

The refrigerator was given to me and hasn't defrosted since it was new. I found the defrost timer had a burnt spot on the circuit board. After installing a new timer, the refrigerator would trip the circuit breaker in my house when it entered defrost mode. I found that the pink wire running from the control board all the way to the thermostat was shorted somewhere between the two parts, inside the refrigerator. I ran a new "pink" wire and all is good. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The plastic left rear wheel was coming apart and needed replacing   Gary H. • San Antonio , TX • June 11, 2016

I decided if one needed replacing I might as well both two--made sense to me. None were available locally so I ordered them on-line. Surprisingly they came sooner than I expected. I also found a video on the internet that clearly showed the procedure. The actual repairs took 15 minutes or less. One good suggestion from the video was to run the screw in and out of the wheel bracket before final mounting. The video also suggested putting something under the corner to eliminate tipping. The... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The bar that supports the lower glass shelf and drawers was missing   Derek C. • Nashville , TN • January 11, 2015

I had to cut down the length of the bar using a Dremel so that it would fit into the channels, it was originally too wide to fit into the fridge. One thing to note, only cut it as wide as the actual fridge; you can get it into the plastic shelf structure by sliding it too much into one side, and then guiding it into the other side. Read more

A friends family had left her refrigerator out on a porch while they were remodeling the house she was supposed to move into. A wind storm blew the refrigerator off the porch and tore the door off. It wasn't dented at all, but when her son pu the door back on, it wouldn't seal. She asked for some help fixing it. I ordered replacement parts for the upper and lower hinge. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The handle on the refrigerator door was broken and needed to be replaced   Richard W. • Baltimore , MD • April 12, 2015

Took off the freezer door, took off the top hinge on the refrigerator door, replaced the handle, re-installed the top hinge and the freezer door. This is a two person job - one to remove the top hinge and replace the handle, while a second person holds the refrigerator door in place. Replacing the handle was easy. The most irritating part was figuring out what parts to order. The drawing of the refrigerator door (Drawing # 4) used to figure out what parts to order was not clear. I paid $8... Read more
