Alumilastic Cement
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP4317852

The Alumilastic Cement is an OEM part for Whirlpool appliances, typically used in refrigerators and freezers. It serves as a thermal mastic compound, designed to provide a secure and heat-conductive bond between various components, such as evaporator coils and the interior walls of the appliance.

Causes of a bad alumilastic cement can include drying out, cracking, or losing its adhesive properties over time. This can occur due to age, exposure to temperature fluctuations, or improper application. When the cement fails, it can lead to poor thermal conductivity and decreased cooling efficiency.

Symptoms of a bad alumilastic cement include:

  • Reduced cooling performance
  • Unusual noises from the cooling system
  • Components becoming loose or detaching
  • Increased energy consumption

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Unit started making thin cloudy ice with chugging sounds during production.   Edmond B. • Prosper , TX • February 24, 2019

The water flow during the fill step appeared extremely low. Confirmed the unit would make proper ice if I manually added more water. Through online research, found this was a common fail mode for this valve (low flow, continuous flow or no flow). During this search, the following video (https://youtu.be/By-i3gVMOdI) outlined how to use the onboard diagnostics which indicated the water level sensor wasn't working. The sensor hangs down in the water reservoir and is accessed by removing the... Read more

Control Board
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP2304016

This replacement part is a control board for an ice maker. Control boards serve as the main computer that controls the functions of the ice machine. Before installing this part, unplug the ice maker and pull it away from the wall. Then unthread screws of the access cover to the control panel. Use a putty knife to pry the cover off and proceed to remove the screws securing the top panel. Use a nut driver to remove the rear panel. Lift the top panel up and have someone hold it upright. Remove the screws that hold the control housing on the top panel. Once control housing has been released, remove the screws securing the grounding wire to set the panel aside. Then with a Phillips head screwdriver, unthread the screws that hold the control board. Depress the tab to release the board. Note the orientation of the wire connectors and disconnect them from the board. Re-secure the wire connectors to their correct terminals and pop the new control board back in place. Reinstall the panels that were removed. This genuine replacement part is a control board compatible with Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Sears/Kenmore brand ice machines.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The compressor was not activating therefore the machine was not making ice   Cassidy K. • Cornelius , NC • May 13, 2014

I had to replace the control board. The repair estimate from a local appliance company was $530.00. So I decided to order the part here for $200 and do the installation myself. Everything on the control board is "plug and play" and very simple ONCE you have access to it. However, gaining access to the board is the tricky part. Unless you have the long enough tools, it can be a real challenge. I had to first remove the water drain unit. Next, the ice cutting wire cover. Then remove the ice... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice machine was making too much ice it was running nonstop   Catherine A. • North Oaks , MN • September 03, 2018

Ordered a new level control sensor probe and installed it. Had to remove a number of screws to get the old one out and insert the new one. They did not look alike so I was a bit worried we had the wrong part but it works great. Now our ice machine fills the bed in to the leveler and stops running until the ice falls below that line. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You I broke a piece of tubing while replacing the flow control valve on an ice machine   Robert J. • Kingston , TN • July 15, 2014

The tubing connectors were unfamiliar to me, and I tried to pry out the tubing connector instead of researching the proper method. These connectors turned out to be very simple to remove. Simply hold the insert against the device while pulling the tube out. The new tube was installed in about 3 minutes by just pushing it into the valve port, and connecting the other end to the standard hose fitting on the water supply . The part ordered was an exact fit for my Jenn-Air under counter ice... Read more
