The Run Capacitor is an OEM part for LG refrigerators. It is located near the compressor in the appliance's cooling system. It stores electrical energy and provides a boost to the motor during startup, ensuring smooth and efficient operation. The capacitor helps maintain the required power levels, stabilizes voltage, and supports the proper functioning of the compressor.
Causes of a faulty run capacitor can include electrical issues, capacitor aging or degradation, or damage due to power surges. These factors can result in issues such as the compressor not starting, the appliance not cooling properly, or unusual noises coming from the appliance.
Symptoms of a bad run capacitor may include:
- Compressor failing to start or delayed startup
- Inadequate cooling or no cooling at all
- Unusual noises, such as buzzing or clicking sounds
This OEM LG part can also be used on Kenmore/Sears appliances.

ER CO was displayed refrigerator stopped working Christopher B. • Colorado Springs , CO • January 16, 2019
Unplugged frig to check connections, everything was ok. When I plugged it back in, nothing worked and the display and ice maker were flickering and clicking. Unplugged the display connector on the main board and could hear clicking from the main board itself.
Replacing the main board and capacitor fixed it. I only replaced the capacitor as a precaution. it may not have been bad, but I did it for good measure. Everything is working great now and I don't have to buy a new refrigerator.
