Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Oven knob broke off   Ernest R. • Whittier , CA • October 10, 2024

I took off the front control panel with a Phillips screwdriver. I used a mirror to locate some of the screws under the panel. Being handy and common sense helped a lot. I am very experienced with fixing stuff but will admit that i did get a bit frustrated. A second set of hands was helpful but not necessary. I took off the shroud that goes around the knob and that was a mistake. It was difficult to put back on and was not required to fix the problem. TAKE PHOTOS AS YOU PROGRESS and don’t lose... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Excessive vibration during spin cycle   Jackie H. • Dunbar , WV • September 10, 2018

This was the second attempt at fixing this problem. The first repair and parts were generated by listing the problem and reviewing the potential corrections, listed on the web site. From making repairs on other clothes washers, I was confident that some of those potential causes could have been the cause. Unfortunately the counterbalance spring and suspension springs were not the cause as they were attached as intended and in good condition. I reached out for Appliance Parts Pros input... Read more

Retainer Ring
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: 285353

This retainer ring is a genuine OEM replacement part sourced directly from the manufacturer for use on front load washing machines to hold the boot seal in place. The boot seal is the gasket that seals the washing machine when the door is closed to prevent water from leaking. The retainer ring is located flush against the boot seal and has either a spring clamp or screw clamp that secures it. Over time, this ring may become damaged due to the washing machine's normal use and age. If the ring is not tight, the washing machine could leak when in use. If water is coming from the door, it is a good idea to inspect and replace the retainer ring and possibly the boot as well.Unplug the washing machine to prevent electrocution. Remove the front panel, the detergent dispenser, and the kickplate to access the retainer ring. Locate the clamp on the ring and loosen it. Remove the retainer ring and set it to the side. Inspect the boot and then install the new retainer ring. Tighten the clamp and reassemble the washing machine. This retainer ring is sold as an individual unit. It is designed specifically for washing machines manufactured by Whirlpool.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Interior light and turntable failed at the same moment.   Stacey B. • New Bern , NC • February 01, 2021

Knowing the odds of 2 failures occurring at the same exact time was unusually high, I just searched your site for what other broken items might affect these two failures. Came up with next control item upstream and tallied that item failure with percentages of successful repairs, (4 mins.) door safety switch. Since I had to change out the most likely of the 3 and since I was already was going to be into the switch panel I ordered all 3 and swapped them all out to cover my butt, as they were... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The washer sounded like a jet plane when it went through the spin cycle very loud noise   Lane C. • Pleasant Garden , NC • February 24, 2015

I originally thought the washer had a bad bearing, but once I got it disassembled it the spider arms were broken. This required the replacement of the tub assembly. While replacing the tub I replaced all of the water bellows. The parts came quickly, the live chat and videos were very helpful. This washer has to be completely disassembled to replace the drum, so mark all the screw locations, tag and bag everything and take lots of pics. Genuine Whirlpool part

Agitator won't move or slips during wash? A worn drive shaft causes weak agitation. This shaft transfers motion from the gearcase to restore firm engagement.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Agitator was not turning   Edward M. • Glen Allen , VA • March 10, 2019

I had to replace the drive shaft and the lower agitator. The motor coupling was also worn out. The repair was challenging because I had to rebuild the gear box. This step was really messy and I had to wait for the liquid gasket to set prior to completing the repair. Cleaning and prep of all of the parts tripled the repair time. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Washer would fill with water and then do nothing else   Richard C. • Torrance , CA • December 05, 2015

Washer Hose Clamp
Genuine Lg part
By: Lg
Part Number: 4860FR3092C

Secures washer hoses to pumps, tubs, and drain fittings to prevent leaks. Replace when weakened, rusty, or damaged to maintain tight connections.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Loud noise during spin cycle   Steven S. • Celina , OH • March 10, 2019

I started by watching the video and it was very helpful. I would make one suggestion. On our model the weights on the tub sit very close to the front gasket. It is much easier to put the gasket on the tub before you put the weights on. Also, since the washer was tore apart, I replaced the hoses and seals and shocks since the machine is about 8 years old. The shocks made a huge difference. It spins like it did when it was new. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Leaks in kenmore washer   Louis K. • Atlantic Beach , FL • January 19, 2020

Replaced direct drive washer pump, the wash tub gasket and the fill hose. I also replaced the direct drive motor coupling since the rubber was deteriorated. Removing the inner wash tub for the gasket change is challenging, especially in older machines. 24 hours before starting the removal, spray penetrating oil around the lip of the washer drive block. Parts were competitively priced and arrived very quickly. The how-to-videos were very helpful! Read more
