Microwave stops heating but clock still works? This door interlock switch monitors door position and prevents operation when the door isn't latched securely.
Found that the Primary switch had broken again after abut 2 years since last one replaced. I ended up replacing all switches since I had it open and the cost for the switches are minimal except the primary and secondary. I re-krimped the conectors as they are rather loose fitting. Plugged it in and it works. Read more
The Magnetron is an OEM replacement part for GE microwaves. It is responsible for generating the microwave energy used for cooking and heating food. Over time, magnetrons can wear down and become less effective.
Symptoms of a bad Magnetron include:
Causes for a malfunctioning Magnetron can include a burnt-out magnetron, issues with the high-voltage diode that powers it, or problems with the control board that regulates its operation
First I watched some DIY videos for familiarization and safety. I bought a 28 Ohms resistor and rigged some wires and aligator clips and discharged the accumulated energy from the capacitor. Took out the magnetron and even when it showed good continuity I discarded it due to sings of been overheated. I reinstalled a new magnetron ( part # w27x10597 ) and a Diode HV Ass ( part # wb27x10682 ) for a total of about $ 143.00 including shipping cost. This price against a quoted price of $ 225.00... This door latch engages the microwave's interlock system when the door closes so the unit can operate only when sealed. Replacing a worn or broken latch restores proper door closure and reliable, safe startup.
What's included: 1 door latch Install notes:
I had replaced the door switches a few years ago for the same problem. I figured it must be the door switches. Removed the cover & found one of the plastic clips on the door actuator (lock) that holds the top door switch in place was snapped off. (The actuator (lock) is the black plastic component that holds all the door switches). The top door switch was not being engaged when the door was closed because it was not secured in place. Ordered a new actuator (lock) from Appliacepartspros.com... Read more
