It started with clicking sounds for about 10 seconds at random times throughout the day. eventually the clicking sounds were gone and the temperature in the fresh food section was dropping below freezing. Turns out that one of the 3 damper doors was stuck open. My fridge has a damper door in the top left and 2 doors in the bottom left. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ice dispenser broke and won't shut off freezer shelf support broke from sliding ice maker in and out all the time   Wayne B. • Belvidere , IL • November 07, 2015

The hinge broke on the ice dispenser funnel and housing. I took them off and replace them, putting the old switches and bulb in the new housing. It took some time to put the return spring back because it does not appear in the assembly diagram. Once working, it secures to the door with 4 screws, and worked as it should. The support slide inside the freezer is held with two 1/4 in screws that were taken off with a nut driver. the rear screw is hard to get at. The new bracket just screws on, and... Read more

Dust Cap
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR02X10322

This evaporator fan motor dust cap is an authentic OEM replacement part found on refrigerator and freezer fan motors. This dust cap prevents the fan motor bearing and housing from being damaged by dirt and debris. If the dust cap is cracked or broken, the fan may make loud squealing noises. If the dust cap is not removed and replaced, the fan could stop working and ultimately cause the refrigerator's temperature to be affected. To start, disconnect the power and water to the refrigerator. Remove food from the freezer so that the back panel of the freezer can be accessed to reach the fan. Remove the ice maker and set it outside the freezer. Disconnect the fan and take it out of the freezer to expose the fan's shaft and the dust cover. Pry the dust cover off and install the new one. Replace the fan and cover. Reconnect the wires and reinstall the icemaker. Put the food back in the freezer. Reconnect the power and water. The evaporator fan motor dust cap is a white plastic part that is sold individually. This dust cover is made for use in refrigerators manufactured by General Electric, Hotpoint, and Kenmore.

Ice Deflector Spring
Genuine Ge part
By: Ge
Part Number: WR02X11768

The Ice Deflector Spring is an OEM replacement part for GE refrigerators. This spring is a crucial component of the ice dispensing system, specifically in selecting between crushed and whole ice cubes. It is designed to always force the diverter back in a way that the cubes get crushed. When whole cubes are selected, the solenoid pulls the lever against the spring’s tension to shift the configuration, allowing cubes to bypass the crusher blades.

Causes for a malfunctioning Ice Deflector Spring can include wear and tear from regular use, corrosion due to constant exposure to moisture, or mechanical failure that prevents it from effectively reverting the diverter to the crushed ice configuration.

Symptoms of a bad Ice Deflector Spring include:

  • The ice dispenser only dispensing whole cubes, even when crushed ice is selected
  • The diverter not returning to the crushed ice configuration
  • Unusual sounds during the ice dispensing process
  • The need for manual intervention to get crushed ice

This GE replacement part is also compatible with Hotpoint, RCA, and some Kenmore models.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Not dispensing ice, making loud noise   Dennis V. • Parker , CO • March 24, 2020

When I took it apart I found that the drive cup was cracked, the helix lock plate hole was reamed out and the ice deflector spring was broken. The biggest problem was the helix had slipped down the shaft and allowed the end of the shaft to bore a hole in the housing which made it a bear to get out. Others have had the same problem. Once I got past that obstacle, it was simple to replace all the parts and it's working like normal again. Very helpful video explaining the repair. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Ge side by side psc25 series ff section was not cooling well (42 degrees best it could do)   Robert B. • Morgantown , WV • October 19, 2014

Common theme on the blogs was thermistors and or defrost heater/thermostat. Ran self-diagnostics which turned on defrost heater which was fine. All five thermistors indicated ok on diagnostic also, but I read more than one time "replace the thermistors no matter what if your FF section isn't cooling". So I ordered all five thermistors and defrost limiter thermostat. Received all in 48 hours (great shipping service), took me about three hours to replace all thermistors and thermostat just as... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Crusher cover was cracked, glide bucket LH was broken just above where the screw motor attached & the ice stripper had two "slide" pieces broken   Frank R. • Waco , TX • July 16, 2019

Replaced the parts. Initially, in order to ensure the ice maker itself was still working, I did some repairs to test it. I repaired the cracked crusher cover with a plastic welder, I also repaired the glide bucket Lh with the plastic welder & some epoxy. I attached the broken ice stripper pieces with the plastic welder. If the ice maker made ice I knew it was safe to buy new parts.
