After checking the fan with 12 volts from a battery and found it was working, I tested the temp sensor. It seemed to have the resistance that was required but since it was cheap I ordered a replacement anyway. When I took the left side of the handle off I found the plastic piece that broke on the right side was about to break on the left side also.
