Microwave has no power or won't start? A faulty cavity thermostat often causes complete shutdowns. This part restores temperature control in 5-10 minutes.
I attempted to diagnose the four thermostats/thermal switches in the microwave....two right behind the control panel, one on top of the cooking cabin, and one under a metal shroud above the magnetron. While checking continuity with a voltmeter, i questioned one of them behind the control panel and the one above the magnetron. I then noticed a burn mark on the plastic connector sleeve for the one above the magnetron. I took a scrap piece of 14 gage copper wire and beat the ends flat with a... Read more
Connects the turntable motor to the glass tray in your microwave. Replace if cracked, broken, or stripped teeth prevent the tray from rotating smoothly.
Opened up hinged bottom of microwave and saw that the old motor had come loose from its secure position. I decided to replace the old motor with the new one and secured it into place, which was very simple--just a matter of unplugging the old motor's connection; plugging in the new one; securing the motor in place with one screw; closing up the hinged bottom; putting in the new coupler; and checking to see if it works. It did! Read more
Securely holds the microwave lamp for reliable interior illumination. Replace if socket is damaged, corroded, or bulbs burn out frequently. Confirm fit.
Our microwave is mounted over the range, and has dual lights underneath that light up the range. A while back in trying to replace burned out bulbs, one of the bulbs broke and in trying to remove the rest of the bulb from the socket, I accidentally destroyed the socket. We worked fine with the remaining bulb for a year or so, but it finally burned out. Unfortunately all of the replacement bulbs would only last 1-2 days before burning out again in the one socket. When I'd originally destroyed... Read more
Microwave stopped heating or makes humming noise before shutting off? The high voltage capacitor often fails first. DIY repair in under 30 minutes.
Main Fuse did not open, only fuse for high voltage section was opened. Prior to the fuse blowing a louder than normal hum was heard from microwave for 1-2 seconds prior. Easy fix is the high voltage capacitor, so first checked the voltage across the capacitor terminals to ensure capacitor was discharged. Typically should be reasonably discharged within 30sec-1min assuming drain resistor is still in place. Removed the high voltage cap, and checked the capacitance and did not get a reading.... Microwave won't power up or shuts off after seconds? Failed thermostats cause intermittent operation. Test for continuity—straightforward repair.
Removed OTR microwave. Checked the thermostat switches while power was applied with a DVM. Noticed that when a certain set of wires was moved the slightest bit the microwave would power up. Traced the wires to the thermostat switch for the cavity. Noticed that where one (of two) Faston terminals was crimped to the thermostat switch was black. (should be copper colored). That is a sure sign of arcing from a loose connection. Since the specification for the switch was to trip at 248F degrees... Read more
