At first I thought it was the supply fuse. Multimeter proofed otherwise. Manufacture schematic outlined the most probable cause the cabinet flame sensor. I bypassed the thermostat fuse sure enough that was the problem. Read more

GE JKP90DP1BB over oven microwave would not power up after overcooking by a tenant. Removed control panel with 2 screws to access and check the main power ceramic fuse, thermal fuse, and top primary Interlock Switch, middle Monitor switch, bottom Secondary interlock relay. All done with difficulty without removing the microwave. No problem found. I had to remove the microwave from the range and then remove the cover from the microwave to determine the exact problem. After a visual inspection then discharging the high voltage capacitor, I used a meter to test the high voltage diode and fuses. After using the meter to ohm out the magnetron, I removed it from the unit, and seeing that the hole in the end of the magnetron's tube was enlarged and burnt, as if it was arcing, I assumed it was the bad part. The door latch is opened by the lever switch, which sits on a plastic peg on the body latch - part AP3186330. This plastic peg had broken. Talking to the dealer, it sounds like a common problem. It's fairly simple to open the cabinet and remove the old part. The manual claims that the big capacitor has a self-discharging circuit, but it's best to briefly short it out with a resistor just to be sure. I have a 21 yo GE convection/microwave that is well loved. In the past the only repair needed was to replace the door switches. We had moved from the town where the earlier repairs were done, so I was guessing it was the same problem.
