This electric drive motor rotates the dryer drum and in many models also powers the blower fan to circulate heated air through the drum. It mounts to the dryer base and connects to the drum via a belt and to the blower via a direct shaft connection. Replace it if the dryer hums but won't turn, makes loud grinding or squealing noises, or fails to start altogether.
If I opened door and held door switch, started dryer, turned drum by hand, quickly closed door and pushed start again before drum stopped turning, dryer worked fine. Apparently the part of the motor that gives it more juice on start up went bad. Ordered motor on Monday, received on Wednesday. Blower wheel would not come off the shaft of old motor, chiseled off as shown in motor installation video.
