The first thing I did was call appliance pros. The tec told me it was a good chance it was the thermostat. He told how to test it with my ohm meter and what range it should be in. When bake was set, the stove would function normally, it would show pre-heating then get up to temperature and beep twice like normal when it reached the set temperature. Shortly after it would start beeping and scroll “ fault detected, press start to try again” across the display. I determined the hidden bake element below the oven cavity was not working, because the bottom of the oven was cold during normal use. If you have a built-in microwave + oven combination (mine is KitchenAid Model No. KEMS308SSS05), this is a difficult repair. The engineer who designed this oven should be invited to succeed elsewhere. Took the stove apart*, saw where the mouse had made a nest. It was kind of like a hotel room after a rock star had used it. It was nasty, is what I'm saying. I removed the insulation, which immediately went into a garbage bag and was placed outside, whereupon I took off and nuked the site from orbit. I knew for sure that the hinge with the large spring was damaged, but elected to replace both hinges and receivers. Replacing the parts was fairly easy and would have taken me less then an hour. This model has thin metal covers over the hinge assemblies. I found that squeezing in the sides of the covers help to hold them in place on the hinge while reassembling the door. I bought an( as is) range (Maytag) form a dealer. I assumed that it would have racks, however, it came without. I tried to find some racks that would fit but none available. Replaced switch with back cover off and power plug pulled. The replacement switch was the same as old, was easy to pull off wires and push on new one. Also replaced torn door gasket with new one and was a exact replacement both only took less than a hour. Read more

Followed the instructions that came with the replacement part: made sure stove top was unpowered, unscrewed the old housing from the stove top, cut the wires, stripped some insulation off, attached the new wires with the (accompanying) wire nuts, attached new housing to stove top. Read more
