Our 19 year old Whirlpool dryer quit heating. After checking the thermal fuse, I found the ignitor electrically open. This is the blower wheel that mounts on the motor shaft inside the dryer and circulates heated air through the drum and out the exhaust vent. It draws moist air away from clothes to facilitate drying. Replace this filter if the pull handle is broken or cracked, the mesh is torn or separating from the frame, rust or metal flakes are visible on the screen, or lint is passing through instead of being trapped. The filter is white, measures approximately 20 inches long (excluding the handle) by 8.5 inches wide, and slides directly into the lint filter slot -- no tools needed, takes under a minute.
