The grill vent is only held in place by two screws. Super simple fix. Remove the two screws and the old grill vent, position the new vent and put the two screws back in. Microwave runs but won't heat food? A failed magnetron is the likely cause. This high-voltage tube generates microwave energy for cooking. DIY repair.
I researched the problem. Found the solution online and ordered parts from AppliancePartsPros.com. It only took a screwdriver to make the repair. The only confusion I had is my model of microwave had a double diode, and the one sent to me (by model number) was a single diode. I wasn't sure what to do, either install the new single one or put the old double unit in. I went with the new single diode, and it works fine. I don't know why the two differences, but it all worked out. Read more
Microwave not heating or making loud humming noise? The high-voltage capacitor supplies power to the magnetron. DIY repair in under an hour.
I ordered a new magnetron and a new capacitor and after they arrived I set to work. I took plenty of pictures with my phone to remind me how the components came apart but it was pretty straight forward. Once the new parts were in and everything was reassembled the microwave worked good as new. The repair was less than a third the cost of replacement and no special tools are required. Just be careful to discharge the capacitor. This website is a great resource. Read more
