Microwave has no power or won't heat? A blown thermal fuse is often the cause. This safety part protects against overheating. DIY repair in 30 minutes.
It is difficult (if not impossible) to remove the electronic switches from the hard plastic latches. I replaced all three switches and both the upper and lower latches I also replaced the main 20 amp ceramic fuse which blew out when the latch/switches failed. Read more
Microwave won't heat but hums loudly? The diode regulates power to the magnetron. Test with multimeter—reads one direction only. Moderate DIY repair.
Replacing a magnetron in my particular 9-year-old microwave (a microwave/hood combination) was not a simple “plug & play” operation. That is why I am placing this in the slightly difficult area. First, it takes 2 people to remove the microwave from the top of the stove. Next the main outer panel need to be removed. After that, 2 sheet metal panels need to be removed in order to expose the high voltage components for testing. Always discharge the high voltage capacitor first before doing... Read more

Microwave runs but won't heat food? A failed magnetron is the likely cause. This high-voltage tube generates microwave energy for cooking. DIY repair.
I researched the problem. Found the solution online and ordered parts from AppliancePartsPros.com. It only took a screwdriver to make the repair. The only confusion I had is my model of microwave had a double diode, and the one sent to me (by model number) was a single diode. I wasn't sure what to do, either install the new single one or put the old double unit in. I went with the new single diode, and it works fine. I don't know why the two differences, but it all worked out. Read more
This is a protective cover that sits over the microwave's magnetron inlet opening inside the cooking cavity. It prevents food splatter and grease from entering the waveguide and damaging the magnetron. Replace it if it is burned, scorched, cracked, or warped - these issues can cause arcing or sparking during operation.
Located on the microwave's interior side wall, this mica sheet protects the waveguide opening. Replace if you see sparking during operation, burn marks on the cover, or holes in the mica material.
