This is an electrically controlled water inlet valve that opens and closes to allow hot and cold water into the washing machine during the fill cycle. It is activated by the washer's control board or timer to regulate water flow at the correct times. Replace this valve if the washer is not filling with water, fills slowly, continues to fill when turned off, or leaks from the back of the machine near the hose connections.
I called AppliancePartsPros to find a replacement water inlet valve. They talked me through finding the clothes washer model number. I had to replace the drive shaft and the lower agitator. The motor coupling was also worn out. The repair was challenging because I had to rebuild the gear box. Researched this kenmore washer on-line and found the problem to be the lid switch. Saw a diagram on how to jump this switch by connecting a wire to both outside wires on the harness and voila! I had a problem with the drain pump on my Kenmore HE3 and I replaced it using a drain pump I ordered from APP. That fixed that problem but once I started running the washer I started getting a FH error code. I looked it up and found that it was a problem with the washer not filling properly.
