Turned off breaker to oven, took pictures of existing broil, supporting bracket and shield attached to oven, removed screws holding element, support piece and shield, removed bracket and shield, pulled out the element, took another close-up picture of the wires connected to element, removed wires, connected new element, turned breaker on to see if connection is correct, turned it off, installed element, shield and support bracket (in this order). It was a simple process to enter the model number of our glass cook top stove; learn the part number required and order. It arrived in 2-days -- least expensive shipping method. The cooktop was removed with a Phillips-head screwdriver by 4 small sheet metal screws on the right and left side of the oven. The oven's power to the cooktop was easily disconnected via two "clips" and one ground. Would have cost way more with an appliance repair shop and it's an easy do-it-yourself repair. Read more

I wanted to get the upper oven baking element replaced; it hasn't been working for a few months. This double oven has had two other issues, there is a fan that comes on to cool the electronics panel, That fan has made excessive noise and it operates for 2-3 hours after the oven turns off. The other problem with the oven is the Self-Cleaning feature runs for about 15-30 minutes and then turns off with an error code. After having a refrigerator repairman come 2 x’s to fix and it kept icing up then calls to the refrigerator repair were going unanswered I decided I was going to fix it myself. Removing cabinet panels to access burner was the major challenge since every one seems to be different. This one, two screws at back allowed top to raise and be removed, Two more screws at front and two cables disconnected removed control panel. The door panel was not quite as obvious, The two screws at top sides and two at very bottom edge were removed. Then by trial, I removed screws around door edge until panel was loose. With the help of Wendee and Karen, we finally figured out my model numbers and which parts where correct. I ordered the parts and all arrived the next day except for the Broiler element which arrived in 2 days. I installed the new Baking Element myself. Took longer to figure out which curcuit braker to turn off. In about 30 minutes I had a brand new Baking Element in my oven working perfectly. On the following day, I installed the Broiler Element. Purchased bake and broil elements as well as temp sensor. Oven is 18 years old...wasn't sure which was not functioning properly. Carefully Removed all three components, and then installed new. I removed the kick panel/door and confirmed there was no flame. Inspection with a flashlight revealed the igniter was damage - partly broken away. Using a 1/4" socket set I removed the burner assembly. Inspection showed the burner was rusted and the flame deflector had fallen off. I ordered both the "Dryer Igniter and Bracket" and a burner. Removed the top of the range after unplugging it, removed the brace holding the element, replaced the element. Total of 20 minutes spent. Read more

This was a 2000 model so rather than just replace the defrost timer which was visibly burnt on the terminals, we just did everything. The cold control, defrost timer, thermostat, defrost heater and the compressor capacitor were all replaced. I had the same issue on my older unit and tore it apart replacing one item at a time over a three month period so on an older one i suggest do it all while it is apart. Read more
