Turned off 40 Amp breaker.
Removed shelves from oven.
Removed two screws in back panel holding element in place.
Slowly pulled element free making sure wires stayed attached and not lost in oven insulation.
Removed two wires from old element.
Attached wires to new element.
Pushed wires back into oven rear wall.
Reinstalled the previously removed two screws.
Turned on breaker.
Total time less than 10 minutes.

First replaced defrost timer which tested OK - but reasonable price and easy to replace. When that did not fix the problem replaced the defrost thermostat and defrost heater. That fixed the problem. However all three parts tested OK ?? May have been a loose connection or intermittent problem with one of the parts. Final cost for all three parts was much cheaper than a service call!!

So I ordered the burner and Ithe switch because I wasn't sure what part was defective. The cooktop is easily opened by removing 3 screws, but I recommend having a second set of hands when performing the repair because you will have to hold up the glass stove top and unscrew the components.
