Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Heating element on our oven burnt out   Jay S. • Medway , MA • November 23, 2015

Simple replacement of the heating element. Found multiple videos on youtube that show how to to do this repair. The cooktop is easily opened by removing 3 screws, but I recommend having a second set of hands when performing the repair because you will have to hold up the glass stove top and unscrew the components. The heating element is attached to a bracket that comes off easy as well. Also have to detach 5 wires that mate by sliding together. We took a picture before removing to make... Read more

Refrigerator Defrost Timer
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP2314156

This is an electromechanical defrost timer that controls the automatic defrost cycle in a refrigerator. It periodically switches the compressor off and activates the defrost heater to melt frost buildup on the evaporator coils. Replace this timer if your refrigerator is not defrosting properly, frost is building up excessively on the back wall of the freezer, or the compressor runs continuously without cycling into defrost mode.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Erratic cooling ice buildup in freezer   Donald M. • Stover , MO • March 13, 2015

I replaced the Thermostat and Defrost Timer. It was a fairly easy repair other than removing the old Defrost Timer. The way the manufacturer, in this case, Amana, mounts that unit with "clips" is just poor design and engineering. It is virtually impossible to get the timer out without damaging the mounts. I had to do some creative rework to mount the new timer. After 2 days, the fridge appears to be working properly with these new parts. The new parts were shipped Very Fast...APP is... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Oven bake element had self destructed   Kenneth T. • Newbury , NH • May 12, 2017

Problem solved by replacing element. An easy fix requiring only a Philips screwdriver. HOWEVER, be sure to turn off the electrical circuit to the oven because voltage is applied to one side of the element even when the oven control is turned off. If you let that connection terminal contact the oven frame sparks will fly !! Read more
