Jimmie L Pelion , SC August 29, 2016 Appliance: Maytag Slide-In Electric Range JES9900BAS20 Right front burner was out So I ordered the burner and Ithe switch because I wasn't sure what part was defective. I pulled the oven out and I removed the 6 1/4 inch screws on each side of the glass top as well as the 2 Phillips head screws on the back, removing the 2 1/4 screws on the shield on the back gIves you easier access to them, then lifted the glass top up on the front to access the switch and burners. Make sure you turn the power off before beginning this process. When lifted up the wires connected to the burners can be seen and are easily unplugged so that you can remove the top completely. Careful not to Crack the glass by laying the top up side down on a smooth surface, I laid mine on the carpeted floor. Just switched the burner out with the new one, pay attention to the wires and where they go, take a picture of it will help if you have never repaired anything like this before, some wires are held in place by wire loops and you will have to remove those also. Look at the numbers on the burner and you will notice that there are no holes on the new burner for the retainers so you will simply located them to the same numbers and use the removed screw to force down mildly as you turn the screw and it will self Tapp itself as you turn it. .don't over tighten. Replace wires. Remove screws from burner and from mount holes in the top to make this simpler. That's it for the burner , now if it is the switch, pull the know of and remove the 2 mounting screws then wiggle the blue and the white plugs to get them out replace the switch and use the same screws to secure it ,don't overror tighten. Then put the white plug and the blue plug back into the switch pressing in and rocking the plug slightly till they are completely tight. That's it for the repair just reinstall the top and you're done. You may want to turn the power back on to check the repair before securing the top. GOOD LUCK!! Stephen S Sandy , OR July 17, 2014 Jenn air smooth top range front left element bad Ordered new element from AppliancePartsPros.com. Part arrived well packaged and the new element was identical to the old one. Opened power panel breaker for range. Pulled range out of space for easier access to do job. Removed top of range by removing front control panel (6 screws) after disconnecting 3 wire plugs and then supported the control panel on the oven door handle. Next I removed the glass smooth top by removing (6 screws). Inverted the smooth top to allow removal of the old element. The element was secured by 2 screws and associated wire bracket were secured by an additional two screws. After disconnecting 3 wire connectors and associated screws for element and wire brackets the old element was removed. I reversed the process for installing the new element taking care not to damage any portion of the new element. I recommend that care be taken when handling the new element as the coils are very delicate in appearance and there are other control parts attached to the element that could be damaged if not handled carefully. After replacement of the element it is a simple matter of reversing the initial process of turning the smooth top upright being careful not to damage any of the four elements and then reinstalling the screws. I recommend at this point to plug the front control panel plugs back in and testing the new element. You will need to close breaker for range providing you did open it. Be careful as there is the possibility of getting shocked on exposed electrical connections on the back of the control panel. Most of the connections on my range did not present a problem for electrical shock due to their design but other models may be different. After testing the new element I reinstalled the front control panel and pushed range back into place. Overall, if you have a moderate understanding of electrical circuits and are mechanically inclined this element replacement is very easy. The total time to do this I marked as 30 - 60 minutes but I took my time to make sure I didn't damage the new element. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of handling the new element carefully. Frederick G West Granby , CT August 17, 2014 Right front element would not come on I replaced the control switch which did not fix the problem. My next choice was to replace the element. A bit of a challenge since this is a glass cooktop and has to be removed to replace the element. The element turned out to be correct fix for the problem. I usually don't throw parts at a machine until I find the trouble, but this time it still was cheaper than having a tech come out to do the repair. Alfred C Riverview , FL November 22, 2014 Appliance: Maytag Slide-In Electric Range JES8850BAS20 Left fron burner on the jenn air ceramic top burned out Went online and looked up replacement instructions. They were simple. Disconnect power cord. Removed some screws with a screwdriver. Remove some others with a nut driver. Disconnect 3 connectors which are keyed so they only go on the proper way and flip over the ceramic top. Remove some more screws with nut driver. All are the same size by the way. No need to remember which size goes where. Remove spring tab type connectors with needle nose. Position new burner. Tighten down, reconnect wires with needle nose. Flip ceramic top over, connect three connectors, screw in all screws. Reconnect the power cord to the wall. Your done.
