The Surface Element (240V-2100W) is an OEM part for Bosch cooktops and ranges. It provides consistent, even heating from below pans on the cooktop surface.
Causes of a bad surface element can include normal wear and damage from extended, heavy usage. Food or liquid spills left on the element for prolonged periods could potentially corrode the coils or electronics over time as well.

Diagnosed by local appliance shop as element. Didn't sound correct due to manner of failure. Also they were charging three times Whirlpool list for the part. Continuity checked element with ohm meter - ok. Replaced switch. Problem solved. Mine had enough slack in wiring to lift cooktop from island & support. 12-15 screws to lift off glass and you're there. Familiarity with a multi-meter is a plus to diagnose correctly. Read more
