Refrigerator Thermistor Temperature Sensor
Genuine Frigidaire part
By: Frigidaire
Part Number: 297110400

This thermistor is a temperature sensor that monitors the internal temperature of the refrigerator or freezer compartment and sends readings to the control board. The control board uses this data to regulate the compressor and maintain the correct temperature. Replace this sensor if your unit runs too cold, too warm, or cycles on and off erratically, or if a diagnostic code points to a faulty temperature sensor.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You No cooling from refrigerator lights worked but compressor did not run   Jeff B. • Ovalo , TX • May 07, 2015

Checked compressor windings - ok. Start relay looked no rattle or burning. Start capacitor seamed ok but hard to check. No 120VC to start relay at any time. Ordered thermistor, and electronic control unit. Figuring it was a bad thermistor not telling the ECU it was warm and to turn on the compressor. Or the ECU was damaged and was not sending the 120v to the compressor. Changed the thermistor first (cheapest part and as Appliance parts pros has a return policy I wanted to start there). ... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The compressor was not working and the fan was not working.   Janet C. • Monticello , FL • July 18, 2020

I tested the fan outside of the freezer with an adapted direct plug-in cord and it ran fine. I tested the controller tsd it was within the good range along with the run capacitor and it tested good as well. I then tested the compressor resistance, it tested good, although the compressor could have been mechanically bad, it wasn't and I don't know of a way to test for it. I found a youtube video and tested the defrost control which seemed to be bad. Then I tested the control-temperature... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Coil in freezer iced up and refrigerator would not cool   David M. • Ambridge , PA • December 10, 2015

My unit has a bottom freezer that is a drawer. I had to remove the drawer, rack, glides, glide tracks, and ice maker to remove the rear panel. This was a little difficult but after researching a few videos on line I learned some tricks that made it easier. I used a hair dryer to melt the ice. This is best done with 2 people having one at the back to sponge the water into a bowl from the pan to avoid a water mess. Using a bolt meter I checked the heating element and found it had continuity. I... Read more

Samsung refrrigerator. it started when the setting was on cubes but was putting out crushed ice. then months later the water refill was running down into the ice bucket causing a massive block of ice in the bucket. look closely at the first two or three cubes in the ice tray after they unload. mine were not dumping and staying in the tray. when the water refill kicked on it would overfill the tray (because of the leftover cubes remaining in the tray) and would run down into the ice bucket... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Fridge would not defrost no error codes   Nathaniel C. • Marietta , GA • April 04, 2015

I have had the unfortunate problem of fixing this previously, so knew what to order. I ordered the defrost sensor and heater... and replaced both. Honestly, all I needed was the sensor I did and ohm test and got 0 on it... meaning it was bad, but just in case I replaced the heater. The fridge works great now, but I would suggest if this is your first time with this issue, remove the panel, unplug both sensors from the fridge, and do and ohm test while they are still in the fridge... and then... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You When refrigerator would go into defrost it would trip breaker   John M. • Fort Myers , FL • November 01, 2020

I replaced the defrost thermostat and the defrost timer. That corrected the problem. Be careful when ordering your parts. I put in my model# and they gave me a defrost timer that was incorrect. I had to return at my cost and order the correct one. Don't assume because you put in your model# that the part is correct. On each part there is a box to put in your model# to check to see if it fits your model. Don't assume that because you put your model# in before that it fits. If not sure, call them... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The refrigerator was building up ice on the evaporator to the point that it was interfering with the cooling fan   Louis R. • Corpus Christi , TX • May 14, 2016

I replaced the temperature sensor, the thermo fuse, and the heating element that thaws the evaporator on a cycle to keep the evaporator from freezing up. The most time consuming part of the repair was waiting for the fridge to thaw out so that I could remove the cover. I disconnected the fridge the night before and placed a fan on low with the doors open so that it was thawed out when I awoke. It was easy to remove the evaporator cover once I removed all of the shelves. I took pics as i was... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Was not cooling food due to evaporator freeze up causing restricted airflow in magic chef rc202t refrigerator   Robert K. • Clifton , NJ • October 12, 2014

After removing the back cover in the freezer compartment with a Phillips screwdriver, I saw the evaporator coils completely iced up, which blocked all airflow. A hair dryer was used to completely melt the ice, which took about 15 minutes and filled up the drain pan almost to the top. A quick ohms check with a VOM showed the defrost heater elements were burned out. The wires for these elements are routed along the right side of the coils behind the cover lip, so after cutting a tie-wrap I... Read more
