Toughest part of this repair is figuring out how to get things apart. Amana doesn't provide you a repair manual showing how to disengage the various plastic covers. Initially disassembled the bottom freezer compartment so I could get to the evaporator coils; they were completely frozen in block of ice, restricting air flow to the fridge above. Found a video on UTube on how to dissamble the dryer. It was striaght forward and helpful. In the process I found an unusal amount of lint in the pipe from the dryer to the vent pipe to the outside It was nearly blocked about 10" up the pipe.. Read more

I lifted the front hood and removed the back control panel cover. I then replaced two terminal blocks with the new kits. Perfect match except wires were a bit long. So I rolled them up neatly and tucked them away at the control center. Used electrical tape to band both sets of wire and protect them from the metal edges between the range and control area. Having never fixed a fridge before, I did a little research. The unit was not old & the cooling system was operating. I am a home owner with no technical experience on doing refrigerator failures diagnostic/repair. So, I look for internet DIY type of help describing the symptoms. The defrost heater element looked good and had continuity. The defrost thermostats checked good, so that just left the Defrost Module as the likely suspect. I installed a new defrost control module and thermostats. The thermostats were inexpensive and the old ones could have been intermittent, The only "tricky" part was finding out how to get to the back screw that holds the main control panel. Replaced defrost sensor in freezer compartment, if you are handy this is a do it yourself job. The cover in the freezer section just pops out not tools needed. You will need a few small zip ties and some cutters to remove the old zip ties. Take a picture were the old sensor was before removing and reinstall in the same place. Replaced defrost heater, temperature and defrost limiter thermostat. After taking the cover off the air chiller I found the coils frozen solid and defrosted it with a hair dryer. Once defrosted I remover the heater coil to test it it was fine, then I could see the defrost limiter was broken and as I put the unit back together I broke the heater tube (it is glass) so I ordered all the parts that might be defective and replaced them for less than the charge of having some one come to check it out. I ordered the 8 inch Haliant Element from Appliance Parts Pro with overnight shipping (I needed to have it working for Easter weekend!) and it arrived when promised and in perfect condition! To replace, you need a couple of boards longer than the stove is wide to hold the stove above the counter. You will also need a T15 Torx head on a handle or socket wrench.
