Whirlpool 285438 Washer Brake Shoe OEM Part

First I looked at the many you tube vids, and there are many. appliance parts pros pretty much shows you how to deal with the parts. I changed the brake shoes and the clutch assembly which also comes with the driver cam. I also changed the metal brake operating cam. I think that brake lockup or improper brake release was the problem that broke the plastic cam driver. This was the broken plastic part making all the ticking noise. I first changed the coupling on the motor but that wasn't bad. in trying to get the pump off, I damaged the front seal and it started to leak. so back to appliance part pros for a pump. Service and delivery was fast and customer service responsive and courteous. I also purchased some dogs to repair the agitator and everything went accordingly to the vid. also buy the spanner wrench, makes things easy. Cleaning everything up before re-assembly is the hardest and most time consuming part. But washer looks and runs good for now. Also be prepared to have to replace hoses or hose washers and possibly shut off valve washers too.

I spent some time perusing the common problems on this website that seemed to relate to my issues. I looked at the recommended repair parts and watched the videos on how to access and replace each part. The videos were key. I would have eventually figured it out but glad I didn't have to go through the process. Once the parts arrived, I watched the videos again and went to work. I have a better understanding of how this machine operates now. 2 hours later I had it back together and plugged in. Put in a small test load was was blown away at how quiet and powerful it was. Agitates like never before and the spin cycle is amazing! Clothes are almost dry. I never had that much water removed before. I have had issues with this washer several times since I bought it used a few years ago. I have spent 3 times what it cost me for all the parts from your site on repairs I now know I could have done myself. I take full responsibility for the misdiagnosis, but the washer is running great so everyone is happy. I also learned that the filter plate on the bottom of the basket is obsolete, which allowed me to remove it and discard the slime it contained. Parts were ordered to replace the clutch assembly, motor coupling, and brake shoe assembly. When the washer was disassembled, it was discovered that the inner tub was rusted out and was going to have to be replaced. The cost of a replacement inner tub made repairing this old of a machine not feasible. I am now in the process of returning the ordered parts, which appears to be a very simple process.
