Fixed it by replacing the electronic control board. Only 30 min. to fix. (See further down for effort to diagnose the problem.) This is the main electronic control board for an upright freezer. It processes input from the touchpad controls and manages the freezer's temperature regulation, defrost cycle, and display functions.
