When I measured the honey-combed material and described it in a chat to AppliancePartsPros, I was told that it was a disintegrating catalyst. I ordered the part for abouit $25 including shipping. It arrived promptly. I replaced the catalyst with a screwdriver. The total job took less than 5 minutes.
