Wayne W East Longmeadow , MA February 13, 2016 Appliance: Jenn-Air Electric Wall Oven JJW9630CAS Jennair jjw9630cas double oven doors did not close all the way and the light would not go out I have a Jennair jjw9630cas double wall oven, and after a few years I noticed that the light would not go out, first in the bottom oven, and then in the top oven. After doing some research I discovered this was not uncommon, and the fix usually involved replacing the hinges and/or the hinge receptacles. It didn't look like a difficult fix so I ordered four new hinges and four new receptacles, which arrived quickly. I found a video on YouTube that showed how to replace the hinges and it looked very easy, so I decided to do those first and see if that fixed the problem or not. Replacing the hinges was very easy - just remove the doors, remove a few a screws, swap the hinges then reassemble. Unfortunately after I did this the doors did not fully close and the oven lights would still not go out, so I decided I needed to replace the receptacles as well. This was slightly more difficult as I had to turn off power to the oven at the breaker, then remove some of the trim and pull the oven unit out from the wall about 8-10 inches. Again this only involved removing about 8-10 screws. From there it was a matter of removing a side trim piece with about 5 screws from each side, and then removing the old receptacle which was fastened with a few more screws. Everything went back together in reverse easily. Replacing the receptacles did the trick as everything worked fine when reassembled and the power was turned back on. Be sure to turn the power off before trying to replace the receptacles, and I suggest wearing some light work gloves when handling metal parts as there are some sharp or rough edges that could cut if you are not careful. I was able to complete the job by myself in about an hour. The only tricky part was pulling the oven unit out from the wall - I had to get a sturdy wooden step stool to prop the front of the oven on so that it would not tip and fall to the floor. Russell H Amherst , NH October 08, 2014 Appliance: Jenn-Air Electric Wall Oven JJW8630BAW Oven door would not close tightly / light would stay on I tried to fix the problem of the oven door that would not fully close by installing new hinges, but that would not fix the problem. If you have this problem too, then you will probably have to replace the hinge receptacles. You can check to see if yours need replacing by looking inside them with the door removed. You should see two silver color pins, each about 1/4 inch in diameter, that the hinge plate hangs on. If these are worn, the door will not fully close, even with new hinges. Replacing the hinge receptacles is a pretty involved job. A do-it-yourselfer can do it, but be prepared for a job that will take several hours. First, and most importantly, TURN OFF THE ELECTRIC POWER TO THE OVEN. Second, take off both oven doors. Third, you will need to take all the trim pieces on the front of the oven as well as the control panel. This will require you to disconnect several electric connectors and plugs (see above about TURNING THE POWER OFF). You may want to make a sketch or take a picture with your cell phone to help remember how to reconnect everything. Fourth, carefully slide the oven assembly out about 5 or 6 inches. Move both top and bottom ovens as a single unit, DO NOT try to take them apart. The oven is heavy, this may take a helper. Fifth, once the oven is out away from the wall, you will be able to see the hinge receptacles. You will need a hex driver to remove some of the screws. Replacing the old receptacles may take a little persuasion, be careful you don't bend the oven frame. I recommend you install a shim on the top, forward facing screw hole to force the new hinge receptacles to tip rearward slightly. A 1/4 flat washer works nicely. Putting everything back together is a reverse of taking it apart. Take your time and double check you have all the electrical connections reconnected properly before you close everything up. Your door should now fit tightly and the light will stay off. Kurt A Crivitz , WI April 02, 2014 Appliance: Model WM30430B Replaced door hinge but door didn't shut tight to oven. Jenn-Air Double Oven WW30430B One of the hinges broke, so I bought a replacement set. The new set of hinges didn't close the door all the way against the oven. It was about 3/4" short of doing so. I came to find out they redesigned the hinge some time after. I had to replace the hinge receptacle to get the door to shut completely. My guess is, when they changed the hinge, they changed the hinge receptacle too. Install was quick. Robert D Vancouver , WA October 30, 2017 Appliance: Jenn-Air Electric Wall Oven JMW9530AAW Oven door hinge receptacle I read the reviews on replacing the door hinge receptacles before I ordered the parts and the reviewer's experiences were all over the place from less than a thirty minute job to over four hours. My Jenn-Air is a built-in double oven arrangement and this was one that seemed to give a previous reviewer grief so I wasn't looking forward to the job. I had previously replaced the door hinges only to find out the door still wouldn't close completely, but in doing that job became familiar with the first half of the next job--removing the door in order to replace the hinge receptacles. To my relief once all the pieces and parts were taken off, the actual job didn't require more than a Philips screwdriver and a nut driver and a good pair of leather gloves when removing the receptacle itself. The time was consumed taking off the lower trim plate on the oven, removing both side trim strips, removing the trim plate around the microwave oven, removing the glass control panel and disconnecting the electrical wiring. I took pictures when in doubt and marked the orientation of the three electrical connections just for safety's sake. The hinge receptacles where firmly in place and leather gloves saved my knuckles when taking out the old ones. Putting everything back together was just a matter of screwing back umpteen Philip's head and hex head screws and carefully reconnecting the electrical connections behind the glass control panel. The job took between one and two hours. Read More... Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 1-2 hours Tools: Adjustable Wrench, Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers
