Terry B Plano , TX November 16, 2014 The old tray melted in the middle as others have noted i discovered it when i saw a long string of metlted plasted hanging down Ordered this part for my KA SS microwave and it was a perfect match. Removing the old cover was not that easy. It snaps in tight and I did not want to damage the SS top. The two fixed tabs go toward the back of the microwave and the two tabs with pinch pins go toward the door. You have to lower the end of the cover far enough to push something into the center arm of the tabs and release the pinch pins allowing the cover to drop down, then you pull toward the door and pull the tabs in the rear out of their slots. I used two plastic shims I have, one on each corner toward the door end of the cover and pushed them in and pried the cover open as far as I could. You only have about 1/16 of an inch opening at this point. I used a very small thin blade screwdriver that would fit between the fixed posts of the front tabs and pushed the plastic pinch pin inward, Problem was that I could only get one of the pins pushed in far enough to release one of the tabs. No matter how much I pushed I could not get the other pin to release. I kept pulling down on the cover as I pushed and finally that half the tab broke off. One side of the tab broke from the cover and the pin with the other side of the tab remained attached. But fortunately the part that broke off was hanging out of the slot in the roof, so I used a pair of needle nose pliers and removed the remains of the tab. Otherwise it would have been trapped inside the roof of the microwave. The new cover snaps right into place. I think I did everything just as you should and one of the pinch pins released but the other refused so I am not sure what to do differently if I have to do this again.. Rich A Puyallup , WA March 21, 2015 Appliance: KitchenAid Built-In Microwave KBMS1454RSS0 Microwave was shooting a small flame out of plastic cover The inlet cover had a hole burned into it causing an exit for this flame. My research found that food splatter on this cover or a magnatron near the end of its life may cause this. I replaced the cover and all is fine. Quick and easy fix. Scott L Danville , VT October 26, 2014 There was a hole melted in the middle of my cover The replacement cover looked exactly like the original. One side has two tabs. The other side has tabs and clips that hold the cover in place. On my oven, the side with clips was facing the door. This made it easy to lift the cover from the microwave and insert a small pin to push the clip in and release the cover. It's worthwhile to remove the cover without breaking it. If you try to pry the cover off you risk bending the stainless steel ceiling of the microwave and also, breaking the plastic tabs off up inside the holes in the microwave ceiling. It would be really hard to get those pieces out through the small holes the tabs slide into. I.W. H Lakeway , TX November 22, 2015 Appliance: KitchenAid Built-In Microwave KBMS1454BSS0 Hole burned in wave guide( input cover) Ordered new cover. Read all previously written installation stories. It is easy to see from new cover how it is held in place. Best tool to use to release clips, located toward the door, is a plastic putty knife. When you release clips the cover will fall out. Mind you I spent over 30 minutes getting it to fall out. I was afraid of breaking something major or if I broke the old cover I couldn't get pins out. Be patient and you can do it. Ike Lakeway TX. Read More... 2 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 30-60 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
Mark G Venice , FL June 16, 2014 Cover for microwave tube melted I put a plastic jar in the microwave without knowing there was metal under the remainder of the safety cover. When I saw some sparks in the microwave I opened it and through the jar in the trash. Later that night my wife wanted to microwave a snack and she yelled to me that we had a stalagmite in the microwave. I looked at it and realized it was plastic that had melted. Ordered the part which came sooner that predicted. My wife cleaned the microwave and using the instructions I found on your website was able to pop off the damaged part and and easily install the new one.
