Robert L Williamsburg , VA November 15, 2014 Appliance: Model MAYTAG DE 409 It was taking unusually long to dry a typical load I removed the front panel and observed the heating element while running the dryer. It was cycling off every minute or so and staying off for several minutes. Even though it was likely the high temp cycling thermostat I replaced both the 14, and 15 cycling thermostats which I think are the original factory units. That makes them nearly 35 years old. Problem fixed. Read More... 11 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers, Socket Set

Stewart H Pickens , SC October 01, 2018 Appliance: Model MAYTAG DE510 The dryer was overheating I went to the Appliance Parts Pros web sight and searched the trouble shooting section. It said a probable cause is the thermostat. This model has 3 thermostats, but they showed how to check them to see if they are functioning correctly. After checking all 3, I found 2 were working properly and 1 was not. From the diagram on the web sight it was difficult to determine which one I needed. I called customer service, and after a discussion with the very helpful lady, determined which one I needed and put it on order. Four days later I received the thermostat, installed it in 15 minutes, and the dryer now works perfectly !!! My wife thinks I am a genius !! Thank you Appliance Parts Pros for making me look smart and saving a lot of money !! Michael M Portsmouth , NH July 13, 2020 Appliance: Maytag Electric Dryer DE412 Multiple problems, first normal cycle did not work then overheating and broken belt I had to replace the hi limit thermostat (easy, easy), Then I replaced the idler wheel (do it from the rear of the machine. The hardest part of that one for me (I'm 77) was getting up and down. Also getting the retaining clip back on took me some time. Then I replaced the regular cycling thermostat (also easy) and finally the belt (easier because I did it from the rear of the machine). While the machine was open I vacuumed it, took out the heating element to test it, disassembled and cleaned the lint filter bulkhead of 30+ years of lint. cleaned the duct running outside. Reassembly was fairly easy. I feel like I know the machine inside and out and it runs great now.
