Blane L Columbus , OH January 11, 2019 Appliance: Maytag Washer MVWX655DW1 The gears were rusted and stripped in the transmission and the hub was cracked. On a 3 year old Maytag...........New gear case and hub installed. The videos produced by AppliancePartsPros are quite helpful, even though the video was not of the exact make and model number I was repairing, the similarities were so great that it may as well have been the same make and model number (whirlpool and Maytag essentially make the same thing and slap I different sticker on them) Read More... 15 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Nut Drivers, Screwdrivers, Socket Set
Amanda B Lewes , DE March 30, 2020 Appliance: Maytag Washer MVWX655DW1 Needed to replace gear case and hub With the help of appliancepartspros.com (and few youtube videos), repairing the gear-case and hub on our Maytag washer was a breeze! Honestly, it would have only taken us an hour or so if it wasn't for a screw that had been stripped in the hub component. I was able to look up the parts I needed with the part# provided by the repair man and the parts found on here were exactly what we needed! And the parts came in the very next day. This saved us hundreds on labor costs. I would absolutely recommend appliancepartspros.com to my friends and family as they were a lifesaver! Greg S Mentor , OH September 30, 2022 Appliance: Maytag Washer MVWX655DW1 Problem was the transmission. Loud grinding noise during spin down. Replaced the splutch twice, noticed the inner splutch gear was getting chewed up. Noticed 1/2" end play in the splined transmission shaft, which allowed the splutch teeth to come apart, and grind. Did not think the transmission shaft should go in and out by 1/2". Ordered a new W11454734 transmission and 3rd new splutch. Sure enough, the new transmission has *no* end play, the shaft does not move in and out. Installed all, working like new! Note: I found a simple way to get the old transmission to release from the drum hub (it quite sticks). After the transmission bolts on the bottom are backed out by an inch, from the top, open the door, remove the agitator cap and back the top agitator bolt out by 1/2" inch. Strike the top agitator bolt straight down (I used my soft blow hammer head down) and when the bolt goes down, this means the transmission splines have released from the hub. Tilt again and pull/wriggle the now released transmission off. No need to remove the top lid, basket ring, or agitator basket. Simpler. Davis C Gilbert , AZ April 29, 2023 Had a bad smell of gear grease when the washer would drain. The washer was running fine and just as quiet as the day we bought it. So, I could only think of build up being between the inner drum and the outer drum. I dismantled the washer to the point of pulling the inner drum out. Once I got the agitator out, I could tell the seal between the two drive shafts was leaking grease into the unit. So ordered a new transmission and drive hub kit. Replaced them, calibrated the unit and tested for leaks. About 5 loads of laundry in and no problems.
