Ben M Wallingford , CT September 29, 2018 Appliance: Maytag Top Loading Washer LAT9356AAE Maytag clothes washer would not spin or drain The washer was on, and I heard a faint humming sound in the laundry room. I went in and opened the washer and it was full of soapy water in the middle of its cycle and was not agitating. I also smelled a faint burning smell. At this point I figured the problem was a bad motor, as the washer is more than 20 years old. I have fixed it twice before, because the first time, the repairman said I should keep this washer going as long as possible. It was made to last with a metal drum, unlike newer models that have a plastic drum that gets ruined when the bearing heats up, so you end up having to get a whole new washer. Additionally, newer models have expensive and fragile computer controls that add features you don't need. I looked up the symptoms, and eliminated the other possibilities, such as the door switch, which was easy to figure out. I just opened and closed the door during the cycle and listened for the buzzing sound. Additionally, I found in some posts that some washers have separate water pump motors and drive motors, but, after viewing repair videos for this model, I could see that one motor drives both. At this point it was clearly a drive motor problem. Since the washer is old, and we have heard the belts squeaking recently, I decided to change the belts too. I also replaced the motor mount rollers and springs, because I know that springs fatigue and don't work as well after several years. That way, the belt tension would improve. I replaced the motor and other parts using the videos on this site. They were very clear and helpful. my dog helped, and we found a live mouse and a nest on top of the old motor under the motor cover. The mouse jumped out as I was tilting the washer onto its back. My dog tried to warn me, but I didn't listen. This episode led to a trip to the home center to get mouse traps! Steve H Columbus , OH November 25, 2015 Appliance: Maytag Top Loading Washer LAT9406AAE Spin cycle issue tub spins too slowly and not enough water extracted "ticking" sound heard Replaced both belts, motor glides and springs. Cleaned accumulated buildup from pulleys. Also adjusted tub springs to washing machine base to align to center. I'd recently replaced the damper pads as well to correct issue with tub stability. Machine is at least 15 years old now and wear items are probably overdue for service. Spin cycle performance has improved considerably. I'm happy it wasn't the brake/clutch as I don't have the proprietary tools to replace this part. This was a fairly easy repair but I took longer than needed to do additional cleaning and lubrication while the front panel was off. James G Minneapolis , MN December 26, 2016 Appliance: Admiral Free Standing Gas Range A31000PAAT Old (faithful ) maytag washer made buzz/hum wouldn't run Watched a couple movies on AppliancePartsPro and determined a burnt out motor was the most likely suspect. Ordered it, along with some back-up minor parts I wanted on hand just in case they were lost or broke during the motor install. The parts arrived next day. The new motor installed virtually exactly as shown in the on-line video. Didn't need the back-up parts so I'll return those. In this day of "Green", it's really satisfying to be able to repair a machine vs. landfill and a new one. Thanks Appliance Parts Pro! Buck K Gentry , AR February 03, 2019 Appliance: Maytag Top Loading Washer LAT9406AAM Maytag washer LAT9406AAM agitates; no spin with smoked belt After watching some of Appliance Parts Pro's. video's, and some on line research, I determined my problem might be the brake assembly. While there, I changed the motor mount roller and spring kit, the brake assembly; both bearings, and both belts. The how-to video's are invaluable, and the job took me about one hour to do. I spent more time hunting tools, and cleaning the work area, than the actual Repair and Replace took. Since the special Spanner Wrench is no longer sold, I used a Vice Grip Chain Wrench, and had my son help me hold it in place, to hit it with a mallet, to loosen it. AppliancePartsPros.com took my order on a Wednesday afternoon, at 2:30 PM, and the parts were in my hand, before 10:30, the next morning. Fastest parts shipping I've ever experienced! When the job was complete, we washed clothes, and noticed the machine was smoother, and more quiet. Spin Cycle was flawless. As a new machine is more than a base price of $500.00, and quickly become $1,200.00; I decided to order the Upper Tub Bearing, and Mounting Stem Kits, and R&R them both, as well. Other than the bullet proof transmission, on this unit, I have a totally rebuilt Washing Machine, for less than $400.00, and less than 4 hours of labor. Thank you Appliance Parts Pros!!!
