Ronald B Fort Myers , FL January 09, 2026 Appliance: Model WHIRLPOOL WRF550CDHZ00 Ice maker assembly failed After ordering the part, I first watched the video several times. Then I placed my phone on my workspace so that I could start and stop the video when following the step-by-step instructions. Then I shut down the refrigerator circuit breaker while I removed the ice container and full ice maker components. I then closed the refrigerator doors to keep the cold air in. I kept starting and stopping the video as I went, as I unplugged wiring components, connection jumpers, the ice maker shutoff arm and extension, and separated the ice maker part from the overall full ice maker electrical components. Then I installed the new ice maker assembly, reconnected wiring and jumpers, and re-attached the new ice maker part to the full electrical components. Once I double checked everything, I carefully (and a little forcefully) pushed the unit back into place part way. I reconnected the final electrical jumper and then pushed it back until I heard the click. Then it was reattaching the cover that protects the wiring on the left side of the refrigerator fresh food section. Once I insured the shutoff arm was in the correct down position, I put back in the collection bin and turned back on the circuit breaker. I immediately heard water flow into the water container which was great to hear, but I knew the ice maker would need to reach the proper temperature before ice production would resume. I admittedly was nervous if this was the solution as I was thinking what would my next steps be if this part did not resolve the problem. You can imagine my delight when I woke up in the morning and the collection bin was filled with ice. Read More... Kenny S Mt Juliet , TN September 13, 2025 Whirlpool ice maker leaking and not working After telling ChatGPT my symptoms and how the fridge was still cooling and the freezer still working and the lines were flowing, we determined that replacing the ice maker assembly was best. So, I went onto appliancepartspros.com, used the model number from the sticker inside my fridge, and it told me which part worked for my fridge. When it came, I used youtube to find a video of a current whirlpool ice maker replacement and found one by appliancepartspros which helped me through it. All I needed was a flathead screwdriver. I moved two tabs with it and disconnected the power and it slid right out! After I pulled the old one out, I saw that there was ice frozen at the inlet on the old part. I thought maybe I could just remove the ice and the old ice maker would work, but for $ and the hassle, plus I couldn't have done it without appliancepartspros youtube video anyway, I figured I would just replace it either way. All and all, it was very easy and I would do it again if I needed to. Before replacing it myself, my wife had a refrigerator repair shop out who charged us $200 to tell us it was going to cost another $1,000 to fix it! It would have been cheaper to just buy the part and replace it than have them come out just to diagnose it.
