After telling ChatGPT my symptoms and how the fridge was still cooling and the freezer still working and the lines were flowing, we determined that replacing the ice maker assembly was best. So, I went onto appliancepartspros.com, used the model number from the sticker inside my fridge, and it told me which part worked for my fridge. When it came, I used youtube to find a video of a current whirlpool ice maker replacement and found one by appliancepartspros which helped me through it. All I needed was a flathead screwdriver. I moved two tabs with it and disconnected the power and it slid right out!
After I pulled the old one out, I saw that there was ice frozen at the inlet on the old part. I thought maybe I could just remove the ice and the old ice maker would work, but for $ and the hassle, plus I couldn't have done it without appliancepartspros youtube video anyway, I figured I would just replace it either way.
All and all, it was very easy and I would do it again if I needed to. Before replacing it myself, my wife had a refrigerator repair shop out who charged us $200 to tell us it was going to cost another $1,000 to fix it! It would have been cheaper to just buy the part and replace it than have them come out just to diagnose it.
