Charles T Houston , TX February 01, 2015 Appliance: Model MAYTAG LAT5910AAL My washer stopped it just sttoped working First I needed to replaced the timer. However that timer is no longer available. So I was not able to buy that part. A friend encouraged me to cross reference the part number. I did and I found another timer that claimed it would work on my machine. It looked very similar. I got the timer from you guys and put it in. The water valves worked right away but the motor did not. I researched more troubleshooting ideas and discovered I had a bad lid check switch. I got a new one of those from you guys and installed it. The washer started working. However the water valves turned on an off whenever I turned the control knob without pulling the on off knob. I got a schematic on line for my model and could not understand what the problem was. But I traced out the schematic and determined that the new timer was made just a little different than the model number for my machine, which is no longer available. I took the timer out of the circuit removed all the wires and operated it while checking the continuity with an ohmmeter. As it turns out the terminals for the power and the motor circuit that go through the on/off pull switch are reversed on the timer you sent me. The only one available. I reversed the wires installed the timer and my washing machine works perfectly. This machine is about 30 years old and still works great now that I repaired it. If you are not a technician I wouldn't recommend doing this. You might not be very successful. I'm an electrician and it took me a couple of days to figure it all out after I got all the parts I needed. Michael D Ambler , PA November 03, 2014 Appliance: Model MAYTAG OLD MODEL 1993. Lid switch washer Lid switch problem. Easy to fix, not so easy to diagnose. Dale D Pacific Grove , CA April 01, 2017 Appliance: Maytag Top Loading Washer LAT9205AAE Washer would fill with water the timer would progress without going into the wash cycle once the timer got to the spin cycle the washer would pump out the water and spin First I checked the continuity of the lid check switch. I found a video for that on You Tube. The lid check swithch was OK. So from looking at some You Tube videos and comments on Appliance Parts Pros it seemed like it must be the timer. So I ordered a new timer and also a new lid check switch since that was an inexpensive part. There was no video on Appliance Parts Pros for my model number on how to replace the timer. I found something somewhat close on You Tube. It was quite easy. To take the timer control knob off I used a small screw driver to pry off the center cap, Then I used the small screwdriver to pry off the circlip that was on the timer shaft. Then there were just to screw to remove on each side of the timer shaft which I used a nut driver for. Then I pulled off the wire harness from the timer. Note that there is a catch on the bottom of this harness that is not easily seen that needs to be pulled out of the way to remove the harness. There is also a catch on the top but that one is easily seen and real obvious. Then it is just a matter of going in reverse to in stall the new timer. There is a ral good video on AppliancePros Parts.com on how to replace the lid check switch.
