Oil could be called the lifeblood of small engines such as those found in pressure washers, lawnmowers, snowblowers, wood chippers, generators, and more. You must be sure that an engine has not only enough oil to operate effectively, but that the oil is changed on a regular basis, and that may mean once or more per year. It has to be done with the right oil, as well as the ideal filters to keep the machine in tip-top condition. Regular motor oil is not a good fit for many lawn care machines, and it is best to choose small engine oil, such as SAE 30, that is specifically formulated for 4-cycle and air-cooled engines so commonly found in yard and garden machinery. It is also important to remember that you should never overfill the machine with oil, as too much will harm the engine. This 18 oz. bottle of 4-cycle oil is ideal for brands like Briggs & Stratton, Craftsman, Husqvarna, Toro, Troy-Bilt, Simplicity, Wheel Horse, Snapper, and Lawn-Boy, among others. It is a good idea to have the appropriate parts for a full oil change, including filters when performing this vital maintenance.

Oil in any gasoline-driven engine fulfills several important functions. Oil lubricates the moving parts of the engine. It conducts heat throughout the engine block and thus helps to keep the engine cool. It also removes impurities in the oil by circulating them until the impurities get trapped in the oil filter. When oil does its job, the engine runs smoothly and is capable of long-lasting service. There is a direct correlation between the quality of the oil used in an engine's crankcase and the length and consistency of service the engine provides. High-quality motor oil, the type initially provided by the manufacturer when the engine was first purchased, is the best guarantee of years of smooth operation. Small gasoline-powered engines are designed to last for about 20 years. Commercial engines, which receive a much heavier workload, are also built to provide worthwhile service for about 20 years. A non-commercial user should change the oil in a small engine at least once a year. When the oil is changed, the filter should also be changed. For the best service, use an oil like this one that is an OEM product and identical to the type provided for the engine when brand new.
