How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2042543 / WE3X87 Dryer Drum Support Bearing Glide

Ordered the Heater Assembly. Take my advice and don't fool with trying to re-coil the heaters yourself! Spend the extra money and be done with it! Glad I did! 

Replaced the front drum support bearing and the bearing glides. 

Ordered the parts from Appliance Parts Pros. 

I replaced the idler pulley. 

Replaced front Drum Support Bearing Glides. 

My husband took it apart, figured out it was the motor. 

Replaced front bearing support. 

Based on your website (and others), I replaced the rear bearing which looked thinner in diameter than the new one. Squeak didn't go away, probably because drum was touching nearby metal. Replaced front plastic bearing which solved the problem. Had to destroy the old one to get it out. Had a little difficulty snapping in new one. Dropped a front panel bolt when opening up the dryer and had to remove the drum to find it (ugh!), but at least I knew how to do that from the first repair. Without the YouTube videos, I couldn't have done the job. 

After looking at other posts and taking the dryer apart as suggested in the video, we determined that it was worn or missing bearing glides. Also noticed that the part where the glides go was cracked. We were lucky to just find the picture of the part we needed as we did not have a model number to order by. The lady we spoke to was very apologetic for not being able to help us without the model number. We ordered on line and it was a piece of cake to fix. 

I first took off the top from white curved plastic support with three screws then took off the top of the dryer then took the control top panel off and then just unscrewed the two top screws of the from and then replaced the 4 plastic bearings. But the two top bearings that are made of a different material and are darker were not quite the same size as the old ones so I wasn’t sure if they would work but so far it’s worked perfect. Thanks.
