How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2044614 / WH1X2117 Timer Knob Clip

I ordered the timer dial, the control knob assembly and the timer knob clip. I only needed to replace the control knob assembly to fix the machine. All the engagement teeth were broken off the original control knob and that is what the problem was. The repair (remove and replace the control knob assembly) was very simple and took only a few minutes. The video was helpful to see what was required to remove the timer knob clip. 

Replaced the knob and timer, the lugs were stripped out on the knob and damaged on the timer 

I replaced the Timer knob components. Removing the cover that contains the Timer was simpler than I anticipated. Just remove the screws on the top of the back of the machine. Hold the cover and lift up and push to the left (facing the front of the washer). Removed the Timer Knob Clip with small needle-nose pliers. Grasped the Timer and turned counterclockwise to remove and unplugged the wiring clip. The timer is seated to the cover and held securely in place with one screw. I seated the new Timer into the inside of the cover. This step took a minute to figure out but if you look at the inside of the cover, and then the back of the Timer, it is easy to see how it fits. Replaced the single screw that holds the Timer in place. Replace the wiring (one clip with many wires that simply snaps into place). Reseated the cover and replaced the screws. I've never done this task before and I figured it out by looking at it. Much simpler than I thought. The difficulties? 1. Removing the cover. It doesn't just lift up. You must lift up and slide it over. 2. Removing the Timer mechanism. Once the screw is removed, the Timer must be twisted to be removed. Once you take it off, you will know how to put the new one back on. 

I googled my washer model and "GE washer knob" and AppliancePartsPros was the only parts supplier that carried what I needed. So I watched the video located on the page where my part was, recognized that was exactly what I needed and ordered the washer knob assembly. The parts arrived, I watched the video again and installed the new knob assembly in less than 2 minutes. Now I am back to full time washing my clothes after a week down. So grateful!

Replaced the timer, and knob 

Just popped the new knob on and back to normal. I was a bit annoyed because the knob timer came with a clip, but it doesn't say that anywhere on the description, so I ordered a clip, too. Only $3, but still, I didn't need it and it's not worth sending it back.
