How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014711 / WPW10006355 Shift Actuator

Not wanting to spend hundreds of dollars on an appliance technician's service call, I searched online to troubleshoot the problems with my particular Maytag Washer Model Number MVWX500BW0. I stumbled across AppliancePartsPros.com and investigated there the most likely causes for my Maytag Washer's not agitating properly and not spinning at all. In order to acquire some additional information, I telephoned AppliancePartsPros.com and spoke with an extremely professional, knowledgeable and helpful Customer Service Representative located in Tennessee. I ended up ordering online a Lid Latch Assembly (Part No. AP5263307 by Whirlpool), a Shift Actuator (Part No. AP6014711 by Whirlpool) and to play it safe, a Lid Switch Strike (Part No. AP6017583 also by Whirlpool) via the AppliancePartsPros.com website. I ordered the parts on a Wednesday afternoon and was most pleasantly surprised to receive the parts from a facility in Michigan the following day, a Thursday afternoon, utilizing only Standard Ground Shipping. I then carefully watched and reviewed the free online instructional "How To" videos at AppliancePartsPros.com and followed them precisely to install these brand new parts using only fairly common household tools. Fixing this myself not only saved me big bucks, but also afforded me the opportunity to thoroughly clean out all the dust, dirt and debris from behind, underneath and inside my six (6) year old washer. I must say that the videos are very detailed and absolutely outstanding! At the completion of my repairs, I did have to also access my Maytag Washer's Service Technician Manual. I found this manual located within a zip-lock sealed clear plastic bag taped at the factory to the inside of my washer's front panel. I needed to follow the factory manual's directions in order to "Calibrate" my washer so that it would again, function correctly. My washer now runs just like it did when it was brand new! I am sure that I saved hundreds of dollars doing this myself! I highly recommend AppliancePartsPros.com and will not hesitate to purchase from them again. I had a number of garbage bags of wet and dirty laundry to do and my washer has again been reliable and never run better. I thank you very much! 

The Lid light would blink and the washer seemed to loss power, until it would stop. I replaced the Lid Latch and recalibrated the machine. This was not the problem. Thinking the main control panel was out, I changed it , and recalibrated the washer. This was not the problem and the washer did exactly as before. I also took the pump apart to see if it may be the problem. (nope) After much money ($200) and research and with the help of fix-ya site, I thought I would give it one more try. I purchased the actuator ($43)and replaced it " easiest of all other replacements" Re calibrated the washer. I'VE WASHED 7 LOADS WITHOUT A PROBLEM! Appliance Pros sent me the Tech Sheet for my washer and model number. That was critical for my success. The Tech Sheet gives step-by-step instructions for diagnosing problem and root cause. Determined the actuator shifter was the problem (apparently the internal optical sensor on the shifter assembly) and sensing of RPM and spin cycle could not be done. Replacement of the shifter was very easy and it actually took more time just to diagnose the problem. 

My Maytag Centennial Washer is only a few years old and the spin cycle stopped working. It would not spin out the clothes or wash right because it was not spinning correctly. The lid also would not lock. I just want to say Thank You to all who have posted similar problems because I was able to self-diagnose the problem. It ended up being the shift actuator. Researched the diagnostic procedure on the internet; found the problem to be F7-E1 error. Researched the "fix" for this code and found AppliancePartsPros.com had the part AND a video showing the R&R (Remove & Replace) procedure! Ordered the Shift Actuator on Thursday morning and it delivered Friday afternoon! 45 minutes after the part was delivered, the new part was installed and a load of laundry was in the machine!! Belt was worn cam had too much belt residue on it and shift actuator would shift when tested empty but not loaded so replace all three pieces at once worked great 

After paying for an $85 service call and getting an estimate for $377 to fix my washer I decided to Google it!! I'm so glad I did, I was not alone. The machine was washing but not engaging to the next step to drain and spin the clothes. It worked fine if I turned the knob and selected the option manually. Found the website that gave diagnostic directions to verify and explain the error code. Through the process of elimination I was able to determine the problem. The YouTube video was extremely helpful!! I ordered the Shift Actuator for ApplaincePartsPros.com which was about $20 less than our local parts store, it was delivered in less than 48 hours. Following the video instructions, it took my husband and I about 20 minutes to change the part and we are back in operation. Everything is running like brand new!! I was totally discouraged with my two year old Maytag washer, the washer for some reason was just sitting there with the latch door red LED flashing and not going into the spin cycle, tried many things but nothing worked. So I went on line to search for any answers and thank God a found the appliance parts Pro website, the comments from other customers and the staff helped me to better understand what was wrong with my washer, the site is extremely well layout from the search field to the installation videos. First I guessed wrong that the lid lock was the problem. I bought new part and installed. I tipped the washer over to remove pump to be sure nothing was lodged into it and found it clear. I played with the motor actuator while I was at the bottom of the machine and found the plastic Mechanism not moving freely. I ordered a new actuator and installed and machine now working perfectly with lid lock staying lit until after final spin which now goes to high speed then pumps a short while and then unlocks lid as it is supposed to. I should mention that the actuator shipped from central CA and I live in So CA and received part next day with paying just regular shipping. Thank you Appliance Parts Pros. 

My Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine would not start. It made a clicking sound, attempts to start, then shuts off in a few seconds. This machine does not has an error code system. The lid light would flash continuously and the sensor light would remain on. I first thought the lid switch was the problem and so I replaced it but the problem remains the same.
